The Black Press Host Meet the Candidates will take place on Sunday, June 26 from 3 pm - 6 pm at HUB 41, located at 4131 South State Street, Chicago. This collective gathering will bring together Illinois and Chicago’s most progressive and respected Black media platforms to present all of the respective candidates running for Illinois, Cook County, and City of Chicago positions in the June 28 Primary Election.
Wind Creek Hospitality Celebrates Start of Construction on South Suburban Casino and Entertainment Destination
Last week, representatives from the Poarch Band of Creek Indians and Wind Creek Hospitality marked the start of construction and celebrated local leaders who provided support to the project throughout the application process. The casino, slated to open in 2023, will be built directly off I-80 near Halsted Street and 175th Street in the south suburban communities of East Hazel Crest and Homewood.

Mayor Thaddeus Jones has gained a new title. The Calumet City Mayor was honored this past weekend among twenty-two honorees for the “Distinguished Men of Honor Award.” The award was presented by Continuing Academic Training organization. The men honored with the profound award are influential leaders who exude compassion, honor, and integrity throughout the Chicagoland community they serve. In a statement, Mayor Thaddeus Jones mentioned, “I am so honored to have received such a noble award for the many people that I enjoy serving.”
Pritzker announces progress in processing rape case evidence, signs highway camera expansion
“We have finally reached this mark that the General Assembly put down, this mark of 180 days, over a decade ago. Complying with that, and finally getting under 180 days, is just the first phase of that enterprise and we are going to be holding ourselves accountable to reaching the 90-day mark in the next phase,” Illinois State Police Director Brendan Kelly said at a news conference.
Governor Pritzker Announces $20 Million Investment in Humboldt Park Health
Governor Pritzker joined Humboldt Park Health leaders to announce $20 million in funding for the safety-net hospital on the west side of Chicago, a product of the Governor’s historic Rebuild Illinois infrastructure plan. $19 million will establish the new, state-of-the-art Humboldt Park Health Wellness Center – set to open 18 months after construction kicks off this summer – and an additional $1 million is supporting infrastructure improvements throughout the hospital.
