Reassessment Notices Mailed to West Township Taxpayers
Median Sale Price for homes is $220,000 and residential assessments increase by median of 12.45%
Cook County Assessor Joseph Berrios has announced that reassessment notices have been mailed to over 44,000 single-family and 27,000 condominium homeowners in West Township. Reassessment notices contain proposed values for property Tax Year 2018, which will be reflected on Second-Installment Tax Bills to be mailed and due in the summer of 2019.

Black Fire Brigade Sends 30 Black Young Adults to EMT School
At the Black Fire Brigade’s grand opening in June, Lieutenant Quention Curtis, the organization’s president and founder, presented a check to send 10 young adults to EMT school. After his subsequent television and radio segments, the brigade’s phone and inbox were flooded with inquiries from young black adults interested in EMT training – and with donors wanting to help. As a result, the Black Fire Brigade is now providing $30,000 for tuition, books, and uniforms so that 30 students can train for certification.

Cook County Assessor Joseph Berrios has announced that reassessment notices have been mailed to close to 144,000 single-family and 4,000 condominium homeowners in Lake Township. Reassessment notices contain proposed values for property Tax Year 2018, which will be reflected on Second-Installment Tax Bills to be mailed and due in the summer of 2019. Property in Cook County is reassessed every three years (triennially). For all valuations in the 2018 Tax Year City Triennial Reassessment, the Cook County Assessor’s Office (CCAO) is using an improved assessment model that has met the longstanding goal of reducing regression. This results in the more accurate assessments of homes.

Recently Released Draft Consent Decree Addresses Chicago Police Reform
A draft consent decree that sets enforceable standards for police reform in Chicago was recently released by Attorney General Lisa Madigan, Mayor of Chicago Rahm Emanuel, and the Chicago Police Superintendent, Eddie Johnson. Chicagoans now have until Aug. 17 to review and comment on the draft consent decree before it goes before a federal judge who will decide whether or not to approve the document.
Obama Foundation Opens Applications for Community Leadership Training Day Program This Fall Program will build on the Foundation’s 2017 pilot Training Days to bring together young people ages 18-2
Program will build on the Foundation’s 18-25 looking to tackle important issues in their communities
Today the Obama Foundation opened applications for its Community Leadership Training Day program aimed at encouraging civic engagement in young people ages 18-25. Building on the Foundation’s pilot trainings last year and consistent with the Foundation’s mission to inspire, empower, and connect the next generation of leaders, the program will train participants in basic leadership skills so they can tackle important issues in their communities. The one- and a half-day programs will take place in Oakland, California; Dallas, Texas; and Oklahoma City; Oklahoma in September and October.

Rep. Rita Announces Legislative Hearings on Illinois Gaming Expansion
Rita will now lead two House subcommittees – on Gaming and on Sales and Other Taxes – to have hearings on the measure he presented at the end of the session and other gaming expansion issues such as internet gaming, fantasy sports and sports betting, in hopes of using building a consensus proposal that could be considered in Springfield after the November election.

Bank to adjust security following call from community, Collins
Collins praised the move as an example of how companies and communities can work together to foster mutual respect. The Rev. Michael Pfleger of the Faith Community of St. Sabina, who was active in bringing the concerns of the community to the public, worked closely with Fifth Third and those who originally expressed their concerns to arrive at an agreement which will see high-security buzz-in doors removed.

Assessor’s Office releases improved residential assessment model used for 2018 Triennial Reassessment of City of Chicago
Cook County Assessor Joseph Berrios announced today that his office is releasing the improved residential regression model used for the current 2018 reassessment of the City of Chicago. Assessor Berrios said, “Improving residential assessments has been a top priority and with the new resources now available to us from Civic Consulting Alliance (CCA) and Tyler Technologies (“Tyler”), we have been able to accomplish what we set out to do.”

Nearly 100 Cook County Youth Participate in Summer Jobs Program
Participants learned highly recognizable, transferable skills
This year’s Forest Preserves Experience crews included youth ranging from 14 to 19 years old who come from families who utilize the services of the Housing Authority of Cook County. Throughout the program, the participants conducted hands-on work at local forest preserves, learned about the environment during educational days, met with and learned from conservation professionals, participated in a Green Career Panel, well as a “Smart Money” class presented by HACC.

Inaugural Pamela Knight Award given to a youth in memory of social worker who lost her life early this year.
Department of Children and Family Services Director BJ Walker presented scholarships to 54 college-bound current and former youth in care. Each recipient will receive a monthly grant and up to five consecutive years of tuition and academic fee waivers that can be used at participating Illinois state community colleges and universities.
