$1 Million Donation to the National Public Housing Museum Will Help Illuminate Public Housing’s Formative Role in the American Experience
Amplifying the voices and stories of current and former public housing residents — a central focus of the Chicago-based National Public Housing Museum— will be made possible by a $1 million donation from the Joseph and Bessie Feinberg Foundation. The funds will support a permanent exhibition showcasing diverse public housing residents’ everyday objects. Paired with captions in their owners’ own words the show will illuminate how seemingly ordinary items can and have had a significant and often transformative impact on their lives
HOLDER WHITE SWORN IN AS FIRST BLACK WOMAN ON STATE SUPREME COURT
Lisa Holder White was sworn in Thursday as the first Black woman to serve on the Illinois Supreme Court. Holder White, who previously served on the 4th District Court of Appeals, was chosen to succeed one of her mentors in the legal profession, retiring Justice Rita B. Garman, who broke many barriers herself as a woman in what was then a male-dominated profession.

Obama Foundation Announces New Initiative to Build Healthier Communities in Chicago
The Obama Foundation recently, announced the creation of the Local Lunchbox Chicago pilot project that aims to provide more than 100,000 meals this summer. The healthy food program connects nonprofits, schools, and other community organizations that serve young people across Chicago with local chefs to serve delicious, healthy, and culturally relevant meals to kids and teens 18 and under. The pilot project, created in partnership with the Shah Family Foundation, will be entirely funded by the United States Department of Agriculture.
