Global Strategists Association Celebrates 11th Anniversary with “Black & Global” Week of Engagement
GSA Dedicates Week to Highlighting the Global Impact of Black Chicagoans
Chicago, IL - September 13, 2023 – The Global Strategists Association (GSA) is set to mark its 11th anniversary with “Black & Global,” a week-long celebration designed to amplify the local impact and global engagement of Black Chicagoans. This initiative, in partnership with local organizations Girls Like Me Project and Leave No Veteran Behind, offers a platform for enlightening discussions, networking opportunities, and vibrant cultural exchanges.
According to Apprecia Faulkner, the founder of GSA, “This week is dedicated to highlighting and amplifying the local impact and global engagement of Black Chicagoans. It is a major glocal event for the region.” The programming aims to engage Chicagoans of African descent with international diplomacy while underlining their contributions to both local communities and global movements.
GSA emphasizes the importance of "glocal" involvement, noting that many global issues directly affect local communities. The lineup of events is designed to foster connections in business, policy, and community development, ensuring a culturally affirming atmosphere throughout the week.
Tentative Schedule for Black & Global Week:
- Sunday, October 6: Black & Global Opening Reception - Free
- Monday, October 7: Black Men & Boys - Mental Health & Wellness Session - Free
- Tuesday, October 8: Latin American Consulate General Fireside Reception: Afro-Latino, Building Bridges Across the Diaspora - Free
- Wednesday, October 9: Red Clay Dance Company Workshop & Masterclass - Free for the first 20 registered attendees
- Thursday, October 10: Business Reception with the international community and Black Veterans - Free
- Friday, October 11: International Day of the Girl Programming - Free
- Saturday, October 12: GSA 11th Anniversary Awards Ceremony - Ticketed event. The evening will honor Ambassador Carol Moseley Braun, the first Black woman senator, recognized for her achievements in global leadership. Faulkner will engage in dialogue with Ambassador Braun, who will also receive the 2024 Global Impact Award.
