WEISS & WEST SUBURBAN ADVOCATES TO MEET WITH HOSPITALS' NEW OWNERS

Community Members Applaud Next Step in 5-Year Battle

CHICAGO — The Coalition to Save Safety Net Hospitals welcomes the agreement announced tonight in Cook County Circuit Court under which Ramco Healthcare Holdings owner Rathnaker “Reddy” Patlola bought out Resilience Healthcare CEO Dr. Manoj Prasad and Insight Health Systems takes over Weiss Memorial Hospital and West Suburban Medical Center on Thursday. Insight operates Insight Hospital and Medical Center in Bronzeville.

“Weiss has been closed since August 2025 and West Suburban since March, while the people who closed them argued in court. Tonight Dr. Prasad is out and an operator that runs a hospital in this city is in. We will sit down with Insight this week, and we will hold it to a plan and a date for reopening both campuses,” said Rev. Robin Hood, Founder, Mothers Opposed to Violence Everywhere (M.O.V.E.).

Circuit Judge Patrick T. Stanton said last week he would place both hospitals in receivership. The agreement between the parties resolves the case without a court-appointed receiver.

A change in control does not reopen a hospital. Insight must regain a state license at Weiss, secure accreditation and Medicare and Medicaid eligibility at both campuses, repair the buildings and restore emergency and acute care. The coalition asks Insight to meet with community organizations within 30 days, to set a public timeline for restoring services on both campuses and to give residents a standing role in decisions about care.

The coalition will also ask the Illinois General Assembly to hold subject matter hearings on safety net hospitals statewide. Weiss and West Suburban are two of the safety net hospitals at risk in Illinois, and the state needs a plan before another closes.
