CONGRESSMAN DANNY K. DAVIS COMMENDS PRESIDENT BIDEN'S COMMITMENT TO STUDENT DEBT RELIEF FOR PUBLIC SERVICE WORKERS
Recently, Congressman Danny K. Davis issued a statement commending President Joseph Biden for his steadfast commitment to easing the burden of student debt for public service workers across the nation. President Biden's announcement of the cancellation of student debt for an additional 78,000 public service workers, including teachers, nurses, firefighters, and more, marks a significant step forward in ensuring that those who serve our communities are not saddled with overwhelming financial obligations.
Under the leadership of President Biden, the total student debt cancellation has now reached an impressive $144 billion, benefiting nearly 4 million Americans through various initiatives. For years, public service workers have faced challenges in accessing the relief they were entitled to under the law due to failures with the Public Service Loan Forgiveness program. However, President Biden's Administration has been resolute in rectifying these issues, leading to nearly 900,000 public servants receiving the debt relief they deserve.
"I commend President Biden for his unwavering commitment to addressing the challenges faced by public service workers in accessing student debt relief," said Congressman Davis. "By canceling student debt for thousands of teachers, nurses, firefighters, and others, President Biden is demonstrating his dedication to supporting those who selflessly serve our communities."
President Biden's commitment to directly engage with borrowers and express gratitude to public service workers underscores his administration's dedication to prioritizing people over politics. Starting next week, President Biden will personally email borrowers to congratulate them on the cancellation of their debt, and will also reach out to hundreds of thousands more public service workers to thank them for their invaluable contributions to society. Furthermore, President Biden's assurance that those who continue in public service will be on track to receive debt cancellation through the Public Service Loan Forgiveness program within two years reflects his administration's commitment to ensuring that higher education remains a pathway to opportunity, rather than a barrier to the middle class.
"As we navigate the challenges of today's world, it is crucial that we prioritize the well-being of our public service workers," added Congressman Davis. "I stand with President Biden in his efforts to provide much-needed relief to those who dedicate their lives to serving others."
Congressman Davis remains committed to working alongside President Biden and his administration to advance policies that uplift public service workers and promote equity and opportunity for all Americans.
