CHICAGO NONPROFIT BRINGS FARM-TO-TABLE TROLLEY TOURS TO AUSTIN COMMUNITY
Neighbors will learn about community gardening and nutritional meal preparation
Chicago Austin Youth Travel Adventures (CAYTA) has kicked off its Austin Farm-to-Table Trolley Tours thanks to a $30,000 grant from Austin Eats in partnership with Austin Fresh. The tour will stop at 12 gardens throughout Austin in an effort to bring more awareness to accessibility and healthy options in the community. At the end of each tour, participants will have the opportunity to enjoy a licensed chef demonstration and free meal utilizing items from the gardens.
“The community in Austin is greatly affected by diabetes, heart disease, kidney disease, we want to give our residents not only the knowledge but the tools to engage in a more healthy productive life,” says Crystal Dyer, Founder & Executive Director, Chicago Austin Youth Travel Adventures.
The tours will take place at noon and one Thursday and Saturday of every month, starting in June and running through October. The trolley will depart and return from the Austin Town Hall Park, Farmers Market. Each tour is expected to run approximately three hours and is open to all Austin residents free of charge. On Thursday, the tour will depart Austin Town Hall Park Farmers Market, located at 5610 W. Lake St. On Saturday, it will depart CAYTA Headquarters, located at 4952 W. Chicago Ave.

CAYTA provides opportunities for inner-city youth to explore the world through service-based learning. Our team mentors youth for careers in the airline and tourism industry. We explore local and international destinations building their social skills through relationship building and investigation of the world around them which decreases violence. We are driven by a simple vision, “to do our part in making the world a better place for our underserved, undereducated, and under-resourced youth populations”. Our mantra is to “Mentor Youth with a Purpose” by facilitating access to unlimited career options and life experiences. As part of our outreach, we also collaborate with city and community partners, Chambers of Commerce, and tourism industry leaders along with ongoing fundraisers.
