For over 50 years, Marquette Bank has been awarding college scholarships through their Marquette Bank Education Foundation. This year, 57 graduating seniors received scholarships of $2,500 each including students from Blue Island, Alsip, Posen, Crestwood, and Evergreen Park.
The phrase Black Girl Magic can mean something different to everyone but currently for Chris Devins, a local muralist and urban planner, it is his inspiration and the theme of his most recent public art project on the south side of Chicago. Though the Black Girl Magic art project, Devins is hoping to showcase a different aspect of the African American community, compared to what is portrayed in mainstream media, and to inspire young girls in the community.
VaLaurie Humphrey went from college flunk-out to front office administrator, motivational speaker, mentor, and founder of the True Eagle Beauty foundation, a non-profit organization that provides programming and mentors to build self-esteem for Chicago’s youth. She has made a name for herself by sharing her story.

Cook County Assessor Joseph Berrios has announced that reassessment notices have been mailed to close to 144,000 single-family and 4,000 condominium homeowners in Lake Township. Reassessment notices contain proposed values for property Tax Year 2018, which will be reflected on Second-Installment Tax Bills to be mailed and due in the summer of 2019.
Property in Cook County is reassessed every three years (triennially). For all valuations in the 2018 Tax Year City Triennial Reassessment, the Cook County Assessor’s Office (CCAO) is using an improved assessment model that has met the longstanding goal of reducing regression. This results in the more accurate assessments of homes.

The Chicago History Museum presents city-wide tours that explore Chicago’s rich history all-summer long. From neighborhood walks to river cruises, these summer tours offer a variety of ways to experience the city’s iconic and unexpected stories.
“We have some major objectives and demands. We want justice for police murder victims, economic investment for the south and west side, resources for black-led anti-violence initiatives, and we want to reopen and repurpose those 50 closed schools,” said Livingston.

This annual outside-the-classroom mentoring program is scheduled for March 21-24, 2019, at the Walt Disney Resort in Florida. The program helps 100 select high school students, ages 13-19, from across the United States jump-start their life goals and pursue their dreams.
