Illinois Enacts First-In-The-Nation Law to Expand Access to Alzheimer’s Treatments

Last week, Governor JB Pritzker signed Senate Bill 126, making Illinois the first state in the nation to require insurance coverage of Alzheimer’s treatments to slow the progression of the disease. The new law, sponsored by State Senator Laura Murphy and State Representative Mary Gill, received unanimous bipartisan votes in both the House and Senate, and was the first bill to be signed by Governor Pritzker this year.

As we look at the cornerstones of our democracy and the extent to which the separation of powers under the Constitution have been held captive by the holder of the Executive Office of the Presidency, we see an outpouring of protest throughout America. Last week, over 5 million people in more than 2000 protest demonstrations, took to the streets against the policies of this President. But that is not enough. Question: How many of those 5 million are voters? Why? Because it will take voters to stop the assault on democracy.

On May 30, 2025, the World Conference of Mayors (WCM) voted to endorse the “14th Annual Month of Non-Violence, Families, and Understanding the Impact of Artificial Intelligence.” (Resolution Attached) This year’s annual event scheduled for October 2025, is sponsored by Black Women for Positive Change, (BWPC) and the Positive Change Foundation. The new partnership will focus on strategies to decrease violence globally and in the USA due to domestic violence, gun use, civil unrest and to produce positive change through educating people about the impact of Artificial Intelligence.

The Woodlawn Advisory Council is proud to announce the successful completion of the application and review process for the Woodlawn Advisory Council Community Investment Grant. After an extensive and structured grant process, 42 not-for-profit organizations serving Chicago’s Woodlawn neighborhood and surrounding communities have been selected to receive funding, totaling nearly $3 million in awarded grants. More than 50 community-based organizations that met eligibility requirements, including proof of 501(c)(3) status, operational longevity, public transparency, and minority-led governance—were invited to apply.
