GLENWOOD CELEBRATES OPENING OF NEW OUTDOOR FITNESS COURT Arquilla Park
addition comes through BCBS Illinois, National Fitness Campaign
Glenwood Mayor Toleda Hart, joined by elected officials and community leaders, cut the ribbon on a new outdoor fitness court at Arquilla Park.
The fitness court was developed thanks to a partnership between the Village of Glenwood, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Illinois and the National Fitness Campaign.
“We are gratified to have supportive partners like Blue Cross Blue Shield Illinois leading efforts to improve everyone’s personal health,” Mayor Hart said. “Their partnership with the National Fitness Campaign is an opportunity for all of us to focus on physical fitness and enjoy the outdoors right in our own backyard.”
The fitness court in the park at 225 Park Drive provides free access to high-quality workouts and creates equitable access to exercise for communities across the region. Created for those 14+ of all abilities and fitness levels, it allows users to leverage their own weight to get a complete workout using seven exercise stations. Users can also download a Fitness Court app, which provides coaching and guidance on all activities.
“Regular exercise is essential to maintaining personal health and reducing health care costs,” said Katie Cangemi, senior program officer of community investment, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois. “BCBSIL is committed to promoting better health in our communities, and this Fitness Court makes it easy for anyone at any fitness level to get a good outdoor workout, connect with neighbors, and stay healthy.”
Glenwood is one of nearly 30 Illinois communities to receive a fitness court with the support of BCBSIL.
“We are excited to have Glenwood join us in the journey to improve health and wellness as we work to make a powerful and long-lasting impact on health outcomes and happiness by building healthy communities across America,’’ said Mitch Menaged, founder of National Fitness Campaign. “The addition of the outdoor Fitness Court, along with digital wellness programming, demonstrates a tremendous commitment to the health and wellbeing within Glenwood.” For more information on BCBSIL’s support of National Fitness Campaign, please visit nationalfitnesscampaign.com/illinois.
