Commissioner Donna Miller & Cook County Board Held Domestic Relations
Hearing Focused on Family Court Issues & Interagency Coordination
Cook County, IL — Cook County Commissioner Donna Miller was joined by her colleagues on the Cook County Board yesterday, June 10, 2026, for a Domestic Relations Hearing examining the challenges facing families navigating the domestic relations court system and exploring opportunities to strengthen coordination among County agencies and court partners.
The hearing brought together representatives from the Cook County Sheriff’s Office, Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office, Office of the Public Guardian, Office of the Chief Judge, and the Clerk of the Circuit Court of Cook County to discuss issues related to family court proceedings, public safety, court accessibility, and the services available to residents involved in domestic relations cases.
Throughout the hearing, commissioners and agency representatives discussed the importance of interagency collaboration in addressing the complex needs of families experiencing divorce, custody disputes, orders of protection, child support matters, and other domestic relations issues.
Participants also highlighted existing resources, identified challenges within the current system, and explored opportunities to improve communication, efficiency, and access to support services.
“Families involved in domestic relations cases are often navigating some of the most difficult moments of their lives,” said Commissioner Donna Miller. “Today’s hearing provided an important opportunity to hear directly from the agencies and court partners responsible for serving these families, identify barriers that residents may encounter, and discuss ways we can work together to create a more responsive and accessible system.”
Commissioner Miller emphasized that domestic relations issues frequently intersect with broader concerns, including public safety, child welfare, housing stability, mental health, and economic security. She noted that continued collaboration among County agencies and stakeholders will be essential to ensuring families receive the support and resources they need.
The hearing was held pursuant to a resolution advanced by the Cook County Board that was sponsored by Commissioner Miller and reflects the County’s ongoing commitment to improving services, increasing transparency, and supporting positive outcomes for families.
“As policymakers, it is our responsibility to continually evaluate how our systems serve residents and where improvements can be made,” Miller added. “Today’s discussion is an important step toward ensuring that families have access to fair processes, meaningful support, and coordinated services when they need them most.”
