COOK COUNTY COMMISSIONER DR. KISHA McCASKILL URGES GENERAL PUBLIC TO BECOME FULLY ENGAGED WITH ALL NEW HEALTH MOBILE UNIT
The Carrie Cares Mobile Health Clinic Community Engagement Tour
(Chicago, IL )Cook County Commissioner Dr. Kisha McCaskill is urging the general public to engage and partner with The Link & Option Center’s all new Mobile Health Unit led by the phenomenal Dr. Twin Green who serves as founder and CEO. The mobile Unit has been entitled, the Carrie Cares Mobile Health Clinic.
Commissioner McCaskill is emphasizing that Carrie Cares Mobile Health Units is a critical tool for improving healthcare access and equity across the community. She described the launch of the Link & Option Center new mobile units as part of a renewed focus on the agency’s mission to connect young families and senior citizens with essential resources for developing more healthy living Cook County residents.
According to Commissioner McCskill, the goal is to “meet citizens where they are” so that every resident—regardless of zip code—can access quality healthcare services. This approach is especially important for underserved populations, such as the homeless, who face significant barriers to care. By bringing services directly to communities, the units help address diverse health needs and provide critical support to those who need it most.
The mobile unit will offer general health services like health screenings, mental health testing, as well as focus upon medical checkups, an array of counseling, and connections to many other services. The unit will be strategically parked at key locations to maximize reach, and no one will be turned away due to inability to pay.
Commissioner McCskill’s reflection underscores that mobile units are not just about delivering medical care, they are about building trust, reducing health disparities, and ensuring that healthcare is accessible to all. As she puts it, the initiative is about connecting people with the resources they need in a way that respects their circumstances and communities.
The Link & Option Center is a 32-year behavioral health care agency operating as a Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic (CCBHC)- will showcase the all-new mobile unit clinic on wheels geared towards addressing and preventing health issues, but with an enormously strong emphasis on mental health.
The Mobile Health and Mental Clinic will serve as an extension of the agency’s CCBHC Clinic. While the Link and Option Center’s reach includes approximately 38 municipalities including Chicago, the Mobile Mental Health and Health Clinic will operate from 8 to 12 high-impact deployment sites weekly and provide rotating coverage across the broader region.
The Mobile Health Clinic will provide same day, access to mental health and substance use treatment and provide a comprehensive coordination of other health services including:
· Mental Health and Substance Use Treatment
· Crisis mental health services, 24-hour mobile crisis teams, emergency crisis intervention s
· Primary Care Coordination
· Outpatient clinic primary care screening and monitoring of key health
indicators and health risk related to Chronic Health Conditions
· Medication Management and Monitoring
· Maternal Health Services for pregnant women and women with
dependent children (prenatal and postpartum depression care and SDOH case management support)
“This is truly a historic program that expands mental health services and will readily respond to the unique needs of more individuals who are in dire need of on-the-spot mental healthcare services. This approach to mental healthcare is the first of its kind in that we now can utilize the mobile unit to provide high-quality, culturally informed mental health care directly to neighborhoods across Cook County. I applaud Dr. Green and her team for introducing such a groundbreaking program to help offset the many challenges of mental health in our society” says Cook County Commissioner Dr. Kisha McCaskill.
Illinois State Representative Debbie Meyers-Martin (38th District) adds,
“Dr. Green is considered by many healthcare professionals as a best-in-class advocate and clinical provider here in Illinois. This unique mobile initiative was specifically designed to combat the mental health crisis in Cook County; however, it offers other valuable services for women and children that will have a direct benefit and impact for thousands of families seeking accessible and affordable healthcare. I totally endorse this initiative and look forward to witnessing the positive outcomes.”
The kickoff for the Mobile health clinic will begin on Monday, July 6th in the communities of Markham, Harvey , and Hazel Crest, Illinois. The tour of communities will conclude over the next three days in the towns of Dolton, Riverdale, Robbins, Ford Heights, Chicago Heights, Glenwood, Park Forest, Richton Park, Calumet City, South Holland, Phoenix, Dixmoor, and Morgan Park of Chicago.
