West Point School of Music’s Epic Steel Orchestra Holiday Concert Showcases of Enchanting Steelpan Melodies of Caribbean Music

Chicago, Ill. – Join the West Point School of Music for their highly anticipated concert, Pan is Beautiful, Chicago Vol. 1, at 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 13, at the Reva and David Logan Center for the Arts. This enchanting event will be performed by their premier performing ensemble, Epic Steel Orchestra (ESO).

This concert promises to be a vibrant celebration for music lovers of all ages, creating a warm atmosphere where the beauty of sound and culture can be joyously embraced. Guests will experience an electrifying program featuring works by esteemed composers such as Courtney Chambers, Ney Rosauro, J.S. Bach, and others, all infused with the infectious rhythms and melodies of Caribbean music.

As a cornerstone of the West Point School of Music, the Epic Steel Orchestra embodies a delightful fusion of classical elegance and the spirited energy of the Caribbean, inviting audiences into a world of exhilarating contrasts and captivating harmonies. Each composition honors culture and creativity, ensuring an unforgettable evening that will awaken the audience and have them dancing in their seat.

West Point School of Music—a community institution catering to talented but underprivileged children—ESO serves as the school’s premier ensemble, striving to showcase its students in prestigious venues. With a long-term goal of expanding to 100 members from some of the toughest neighborhoods on Chicago's south and west sides, the orchestra currently comprises 30 students enrolled in the Celebration on Steel Pan program, where each member also contributes to mentoring new students. Under the leadership of Julian J. Champion, a civic-minded and socially conscious founder of the West Point School of Music, Epic Steel Orchestra continues to embody a powerful vision of musical excellence and community empowerment.

Founded in 2011, West Point School of Music has provided high-quality music education to thousands of students from underprivileged communities in Chicago. With a mission to engage urban youth through tuition-free music instruction and performance, West Point nurtures artistically connected, socially conscious, and productive adults.

Celebration on Steel: Steel drum music program for all ages and skill levels

Panville (Steel Pan Manufacturing): The only steel pan manufacturer in Illinois, providing steel drums to students at no cost

Epic Steel Orchestra: Premier ensemble performing diverse music genres

Instrument Repair Shop (IRS): Free instrument maintenance and repair, plus internship opportunities for students
