KIKWETU COFFEE CELEBRATES 10 YEARS WITH SILVER ROOM POP-UP

Silver Room Patrons Will Have the Chance to Sample Kikwetu’s Rich, Flavorful Coffee Every Sunday

CHICAGO - Kikwetu, a Chicago-based, family-run coffee company that sources its beans directly from small-scale coffee farmers in Kenya, today announced it will celebrate the brand’s 10th anniversary with a new weekly pop-up at the iconic Silver Room and a new subscription service, making it easier than ever to brew specialty grade, ethically sourced coffee at home.

“My wife Martha and I founded Kikwetu a decade ago with a mission to build a bridge between Kenya, where we were born and raised, and Chicago, where we have made our lives,” said co-founder Leecox Omollo. “Coffee is more than just a drink to wake you up in the morning. It is a unifying force that fosters connection and community. Cafes and coffee shops are gathering places in Chicago, Nairobi and across the world, and the power of coffee to bring people together is quite understated. Kikwetu serves as a reminder of this power.”

Kikwetu will host a special weekly pop-up at Silver Room (1506 E. 53rd St.) giving guests a chance to taste the company’s one-of-a-kind drinks made from coffee grown in the rich volcanic soils of Kenya’s highlands. The first 20 guests will receive a complimentary “mandazi” pastry made from Omollo’s special family recipe, and coffee beans will be available for purchase.

Visitors to the pop-up can also be among the first to sign up for Kikwetu's new subscription service. Subscribers can select their favorite coffee type, preferred grind and desired delivery frequency. Kikwetu will then roast and automatically deliver the coffee to their doorstep, with free shipping included. Customers can also learn more and sign up for the subscription service at kikwetu.coffee.

Born and raised in Nairobi, Kenya, Leecox and Martha met in Chicago and founded Kikwetu with the vision to build and foster human connection through coffee and connect Kenya’s coffee growers and consumers in Chicago. Their family-run company grew popular through its longtime presence at Chicago farmers markets. Kikwetu now operates a permanent coffee bar at SPF, Chicago’s largest indoor pickleball facility, in addition to offering several menu items at 360 CHICAGO, the observation deck atop the former John Hancock Center.
