Commissioner Donna Miller Hosts Successful Community Blood Drive in Matteson
Matteson, IL – Cook County Commissioner Donna Miller successfully hosted a Season of Giving - Community Blood Drive this week in Matteson in partnership with Versiti Blood Center of Illinois, bringing residents together to support lifesaving efforts across the region.
Held at the Community Rooms on Matteson Avenue, the blood drive welcomed community members who stepped up to donate and help address the ongoing need for blood products in local hospitals serving the Chicago area and Northwest Indiana. The event was also attended by the Mayor of Matteson Sheila Chalmers-Currin and Township Supervisor Calvin Jordan, whose presence underscored the strong local support for community health initiatives.
“Thank you to everyone who took the time to donate and make a difference,” said Commissioner Miller. “Your generosity helps ensure that the patients in our area have access to the critical care they need. This is what showing up for the community looks like—neighbors helping neighbors.”
The event is part of Commissioner Miller’s continued commitment to promoting public health initiatives and encouraging community engagement throughout the region. Blood donations remain essential to supporting emergency care, surgeries, and ongoing medical treatments. This effort is especially crucial for individuals living with sickle cell, a disease that disproportionately affects Black Americans and often requires regular blood transfusions. Increasing diverse blood donations helps improve outcomes and ensures patients receive the best possible matches.
Commissioner Miller also expressed appreciation to Versiti Blood Center of Illinois for their partnership and to all volunteers who helped make the event a success.
