Recently, Congressman Danny K. Davis issued a statement commending President Joseph Biden for his steadfast commitment to easing the burden of student debt for public service workers across the nation. President Biden's announcement of the cancellation of student debt for an additional 78,000 public service workers, including teachers, nurses, firefighters, and more, marks a significant step forward in ensuring that those who serve our communities are not saddled with overwhelming financial obligations.
Under the leadership of President Biden, the total student debt cancellation has now reached an impressive $144 billion, benefiting nearly 4 million Americans through various initiatives. Starting next week, President Biden will personally email borrowers to congratulate them on the cancellation of their debt, and will also reach out to hundreds of thousands more public service workers to thank them for their invaluable contributions to society. Furthermore, President Biden's assurance that those who continue in public service will be on track to receive debt cancellation through the Public Service Loan Forgiveness program within two years reflects his administration's commitment to ensuring that higher education remains a pathway to opportunity, rather than a barrier to the middle class.
