NACCHO’s ‘Roots of Health Inequity’ Recognized with Webby Award
The Newly Revamped Online Course Series Aims to Explore and Address the Root Causes of Social Injustice and Health Inequities in Communities
Washington, DC, December 19, 2024 – The National Association of County and City Health Officials (NACCHO), the voice of the country’s over 3,300 local health departments, is proud to be a recipient of the 4th Annual Anthem Webby Award for its signature learning course series, Roots of Health Inequity. With support from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), the course helps participants identify and act upon the root causes of health inequities impacting their community.
The award-winning online course series relaunched last summer and has received more than 5,000 new visitors. The course series employs a framework that encourages the learner to understand how narratives, structures of power, and policies shape the landscape of health outcomes throughout the United States and explores the fundamental causes of health inequities. Learners have the opportunity to use videos, audio recordings, interactive activities, discussion questions, worksheets, and graphics to fully engage with the content.
“NACCHO is honored to receive this year’s Anthem Webby Award,” said Lori Tremmel Freeman, Chief Executive Officer at NACCHO. “The Roots course was groundbreaking when it was first released, and the recent updates ensure that it continues to be a meaningful and impactful training tool for public health professionals, partners, and communities working to address health inequities.”
Launched in 2021 by The Webby Awards, The Anthem Awards is the largest and most comprehensive social impact award and recognizes the purpose and mission-driven work of people, companies, and organizations worldwide. The Anthem Awards honor work across seven core causes including: Diversity, Equity & Inclusion; Education, Art & Culture; Health, Human & Civil Rights; Humanitarian Action & Services; Responsible Technology; and Sustainability, Environment & Climate.
