She Owns It, She Biz Conference Set For May 17th

By Tia Carol Jones

Public Relations Practitioner Christi Love, head of With an Eye PR, has created a conference for Black women, supported by Black men to empower Black women and uplift them.

The She Owns It, She Biz Conference will take place on Friday, May 17th, at Malcolm X College, 1900 W. Jackson Blvd. Love started the conference three years ago because she wanted to do an event to say thank you to her friends and clients who were Black women in business in November, and acknowledged that they made it through the pandemic. It was a  gathering of 70 women in person and 40 people online.

For the second year of the conference, Love partnered with the University of Illinois at Chicago. There were 350 women in attendance at the event, which also honored Black women who are movers and shakers in Chicago, the surrounding communities and internationally.

“Everyone who attended, the participants and the attendees, they all spoke positively about the event so it gave me the encouragement to do it again this year,” Love said.

Love said that while Black women for so long have been the backbone of society, they have been overlooked, counted out and not given credit. She wanted to create a conference that would uplift Black women and empower them. It is her hope that the conference will promote sisterhood.

Moor’s Brewing Company is a sponsor for the She Owns It, She Biz Conference. Jamal Johnson, Co-Founder and CFO of Moor’s Brewing Company, said they wanted to show their appreciation and support to Black women. Black women were instrumental in the creation of beer. The Black-owned brewery, which launched on June 19, 2021, paid homage to Patsy Young, a formerly enslaved woman who mastered beer brewing, during Women’s History Month. Damon Patton, Co-Founder and CEO of Moor’s Brewing, said they wanted to make sure they showed up for Black women.

The She Owns It, She Biz Conference was announced at Moor’s Brewing Company’s Blossom event. The goal of the event was to highlight women in different industries.

“It was a way to acknowledge the fact, that without those women we couldn’t be kings, without the women who support us,” said Anthony Bell, with Moor’s Brewing Company. “we want to continue the tradition of acknowledging women and their place in various industries and their empowerment.”

Love said the mission of She Owns It She Biz and Moor’s Brewing Company alignment, is that they both believe in making things better for the culture, the Black community and Black and brown people as a whole, in business and in the community.

The full-day conference will include resources and an opportunity to network with other people. There will be panel discussions and workshops. Attendees will also be able to speak with experts to ask questions and get knowledge from them. Vendors will be on-site, as well as a resource center where people can learn about different women-led organizations and Black-owned, woman-owned businesses. At the She Rocks Honorees Award reception, Black women who have been instrumental in making change and representing the community will be honored. There will also be a man honored at the ceremony with the He Supports Her award and the first She’s Community award.

Love hopes attendees are able to self-reflect and are inspired to have self-love and loving one another.

“I want us to come together as Black women and really recognize that when we work together and we truly support one another, authentically, we are unstoppable. It is our desire, those of us who are producing this conference, that our attendees walk away feeling better and more empowered to be a bolder Black woman in society as they continue to make change and make a difference,” Love said.

Other sponsors include Ashe Counseling and Coaching, E&E MGMT, Memoire Skincare, Dream Center Co-Working and Business Support, NBC Chicago and Telemundo, The Brunch Bunch Radio Show, Olashay Marketing and Red Level Entertainment.

Cost is $100 and tickets are now on sale. For more information about the She Owns It She Biz Conference, visit www.sheownsitshebiz.com.
