(Dixmoor, IL) The Dixmoor Vikings 11U and 10U Pop Warner teams are gearing up for an exhilarating opportunity as they head to the prestigious Pop Warner Super Bowl in Orlando, FL. This remarkable achievement comes on the heels of the team’s incredible performance, having clinched the National Runner-Up position after narrowly missing out on Nationals last year.
Under the visionary leadership of President and Founder Dwayne Tyson, the Vikings have transcended traditional coaching paradigms. Coach Tyson's commitment extends far beyond the field, fostering profound relationships with each player. “This is not just a team; this is a community of people that care for each other and love to see our kids win scholastically, physically, and emotionally,” Coach Tyson affirmed.
The program's holistic approach to nurturing young talent extends to providing healthy post-practice meals and sourcing resources for tutoring, ensuring academic excellence. Notably, every student maintains an impressive 3.0 GPA while actively participating in community initiatives. From neighborhood clean-ups to serving over 10,000 meals to people experiencing homelessness, the Vikings instill the value of giving back.
The team's unity and support were profoundly evident during trying times. When player Dj faced the tragic loss of his mother, Mary Tyson, one of the revered “Team Moms,” the Vikings team rallied behind Dj in great support. Mary Tyson’s profound care for the children's well-being transcended typical roles, embodying the team's familial spirit. Despite her passing, Dj found solace in playing with the team, a testament to their bond.
Despite facing adversity, including a challenging period where home games were disallowed due to unrelated incidents, the Vikings rose above. This tenacity propelled them to the National Championship, demonstrating resilience and determination.
To support this incredible journey, the Vikings seek the public's assistance. The team needs $40,000 to facilitate the travel of 50 kids and eight coaches to Orlando, covering expenses for airfare, accommodations, meals, and exciting excursions like visiting SeaWorld and Speed Race Tracks, which will be a first-time experience traveling outside of Illinois for many players. Contributions can be made via the GoFundMe page (https://gofund.me/494f314e) or by contacting Coach Dwayne Tyson at (708)-439-2920.
The Dixmoor Vikings' journey symbolizes the triumph of spirit, resilience, and community support. The public's generosity will help these deserving young athletes reach their dreams and create lasting memories at the Pop Warner Super Bowl.
