Sheila Chalmers-Currin -Mayor of Matteson, Illinois-and the Matteson Village Board and philanthropist Early Walker are proud to announce the annual summer music festival which is the largest 4th of July music gathering in Cook County. The Village of Matteson will begin the holiday weekend with its summer rollout of "Concerts at The Hall."
However, this year’s mission of the festival is to raise awareness and to sustain the “Parent for Chicago” Text Line that was designed to prevent the recent Teen Takeovers throughout Cook County. By texting "CHICAGOKIDS" to "21000", parents have been able sign up for these communications. These notifications have made it easier for parents to be informed of gatherings their children may be at and have helped prevent their children from engaging in dangerous and disorderly conduct.
After introducing the Parents for Chicago to the public, thousands of parents have signed up as members and have shared hundreds of messages and key information that led to four planned takeovers during the recent Memorial Holiday weekend being halted and canceled.
Mr. Walker and his “I’m Telling, Don’t Shoot “organization have solely financed this initiative. But Walker is hopeful that residents’ other business leaders will join in the campaign.
“While we are looking forward to celebrating the holiday with music, fun and fellowship, we cannot ignore the heroic accomplishments of law enforcement who put their lives on the line daily. Mr. Walker’s “Parent for Chicago” text line has been a great resource for law enforcement throughout Cook County. So, we not only want to enjoy music in a peaceful manner, but also want to assist in helping to promote and sustain peace.” says Mayor Chalmers-Currin.
Artists like Jon B and Melanie Fiona are set to grace the stage with some of their greatest hits! Other featured artists include the Delivery Point Band. The concert will take place on the lawn of the Village Hall and will begin promptly at 5 PM. Residents are welcome to bring a lawn chair and enjoy an evening of endless joy, vendors, a beautiful beer garden, and fireworks! All members of the public are welcome to join.
Mayor Sheila Chalmers-Currin adds, "The Fourth of July Concert at the Hall is always an amazing experience for the many residents of Matteson. Some of the amazing sponsors that have helped with this effort are Amazon, Culvers, Insure Source, Com-Ed, 4Front, and Comcast. We are grateful for their support”
