Flora & Noor Offers Clean, Halal Skincare

BY TIA CAROL JONES
Jordan Karim loves skincare. It is fun and a passion for her. She started her skincare company, Flora & Noor, after working nine years in pharmaceutical skincare.

Karim realized that while the skincare she was consulting for was efficacious, it wasn’t vegan, cruelty-free or clean. Another big thing for Karim, who is Muslim, is the products weren’t Halal. She wanted
to better for herself and for others.

Halal Beauty Products are defined as alcohol-free, not having any animal product and composed of products permissible under Muslim law. In the United States, the Halal Cosmetics Market was $33 billion
in 2021 and expected to grow to $77 billion by 2028. Globally, the market is $70 billion.

“We don’t have any access to Halal products in the U.S., in terms of beauty in the U.S. I just decided I wanted to change that,” Karim said.

With Flora & Noor, Karim knew she wanted to targetchronic skin conditions. All of the products treat a chronic skin condition – whether it’s dermatitis, eczema, hyperpig - mentation and melasma. She decided to specifically focus on treating chronic skin conditions because her son has eczema. One of the first products Karim created for Flora & Noor is the Oatmeal and Shea Body Butter. She created it initially in her kitchen for her son.

Prices range from $24 for cleansers to $98 for the Boost and Brighten Collection, which includes the Boost + Brighten Vitamin C Cleaner, Bright Side Serum and the Super C Moisturizer.

All of the products are made with inspiration, practice and traditions from Africa and the Middle East. There are ingredients in the products that some people might not be aware of. For example,
one of the ingredients, a botanical version of hyaluronic acid that is native from Nubia, Egypt, and also found in Sudan, Somalia and India.

“Even in our Rose Renewal Toner, you’ll see real Egyptian rose petals floating in the toner,” Karim said, adding that because of her diverse family background, she wanted to incorporate the traditions
and practices in all of the products.

While Karim does formulate and target her products for people with melanin- rich skin, the products can be used by everyone. Karim also had to educate people about what it means that her skincare
line is Halal.

“Everything you ever wanted in a skincare brand, everything you ever wanted in a product, in terms of being clean, we are beyond
clean, because we’re Halal-certified … Every single one of our ingredients is traceable,” she said, adding the packaging also is reusable and recyclable.

Because Karim worked in pharmaceutical skincare, she wanted to make skincare easier for consumers. She decided to make each product part of a routine that is easier for people to abide by when they do their routine in the morning and at night.

The most popular products are the Vitamin C Resurfacing Toner and the Oatmeal and Shea Body Butter. Karim’s favorite product is the new Super Glow Gel Moisturizer, which works to brighten and fade dark spots as well as treat hyperpigmentation.

The products are available at www.floraandnoor.com, Amazon, Thirteen Lune and Beauty Brand and Verishop. Flora & Noor also is launching in Ulta in January 2023.
