Rev. Jackson Calls for Disbarment of D.A. Who Called Rep. Waters a “C” and a “Ghetto B”
Rev. Jesse L. Jackson, Sr. recently joined a group of ministers and elected officials at the New Hope Missionary Baptist Church, 1575 W. 17th St., San Bernardino, California to call for the disbarment of San Bernardino County Deputy District Attorney Michael Selyem who is under fire for calling Rep. Maxine Waters (D-CA) racist, hateful names and making veiled threats.
“It is not enough to place attorney Selyem on administrative leave for his racist and demeaning social media rant,” said Rev. Jackson. “Attorney Selyem is not fit to be a lawyer given his vulgar, degrading and racist remarks about Rep. Waters, Mexicans and even former First Lady Michelle Obama.”
Rev. Chuck Singleton, pastor of Loveland Church in San Bernardino County, said, “His comments were vulgar and quite juvenile. It makes us wonder how could he be prosecuting the gang unit when he shows less maturity than do gangsters. Is this what our DA’s office is? Does he represent the culture of our county government? I trust not. I know too many good people in our government who are besmirched by this character’s immaturity, vulgarity, threats, violence and racism.”
When Selyem said Waters was a “loud-mouthed c… in the ghetto you would think someone would have shot this b… by now,” Rev. Jackson labeled Selyem conduct as “morally wrong and socially unacceptable. He is not fit to be a lawyer and should be disbarred.”
“It’s not just that he has said these things just now, but he has done it continuously,” Rev. Jackson said referring to Selyem’s long and public history of posting foul and racist language against blacks and other people on social media.
Selyem, who is the lead gang prosecutor, has also made hateful posts targeting Mexicans. He posted a photo of a man in a giant sombrero with a caption, “Mexican word of the day: Hide.”
And, he wrote a caption of a Breitbart post of a Budweiser Super Bowl ad celebrating immigrant success stories, saying, “I am all for white males immigrating here legally and starting a business. It is the terrorist a…holes sneaking in here wanting to kill me an (sic) my family that I am opposed to.”
Even though Selyem deleted both his Instagram and Facebook accounts in the last few days, screenshots of some of his offensive posts are still available online.
“We cannot allow Selyem to disrespect our women, our elected officials and other people of color,” said Rev. Jackson. “He is an embarrassment to lawyers and to the judicial system.
