RE: Hospitalization of Calumet City Mayor and Illinois State Representative Thaddeus M. Jones

On Monday Mayor Jones walked into the emergency room at Northwestern Hospital after experiencing physical complications while working from home. The doctors made the decision to keep the mayor overnight to perform a battery of tests to determine a diagnosis of the mayor’s health.

The tests confirmed that the mayor endured a minor stroke. He will remain hospitalized for a few days while completing physical exercises commonly used after such episodes.

The mayor has his wife, Saprina Jones, and two sons by his side. He is walking, talking, and performing light work duties, including meeting with the Calumet City Police Chief and Chief Administrator. He has also spoken with Illinois Speaker of the House Emanuel Chris Welch and the President Pro Tempore of the Calumet City Council to inform them both of his current medical condition. Doctors have informed the mayor that his prognosis is good and he is expected to make a complete recovery.

The mayor deeply appreciates the outpouring of concern and prayers from residents throughout Calumet City and beyond. He also wants to express his gratitude to the doctors, nurses, and staff at Northwestern Hospital for the quality of care that he has received.

The mayor looks forward to leaving the hospital soon and following his doctor’s ongoing guidance for his long-term health.
