U.S. Senator Richard Durbin (IL-D) will be present for the rededication of Maya Angelou Elementary School at  15748 Page St. in Harvey Ill. On Monday, Sept. 22 at 10:30 a.m.  Maya Angelou Elementary School was formerly known as Waldo Emerson Elementary School before being renamed on Friday, September 22, 1995 in honor of Angelou’s legacy.

This viaduct located at 63rd Street and Wallace Avenue– the ‘gateway’ between the Englewood and Woodlawn neighborhoods will soon be transforned into a Peace Mural. Construction on the peace mural began Sept. 13 and is expected to be completed Oct. 2. Community Days, where members of the community are invited to participate in the construction of the mural, will take place the following Saturdays: September 13, 20, and 27.  Light snacks and refreshments will be provided by EarthHeart Foundation.
