The YMCA of Metropolitan Chicago recently received a $1 million grant from the Illinois Criminal Justice Information Authority and funding from the federal Victims of Crime Act Community Violence Program that will allow them to expand their Youth Safety and Violence Prevention (YSVP) initiative to the Woodlawn and South Shore communities as wells as broaden mental health services throughout the city.
Nearly 800 civic, corporate and community leaders attended the After School Matters Annual Gala on Monday, September 24 at the Wintrust Arena to celebrate a banner year of successfully providing after-school and summer programs for Chicago teenagers. The inaugural Speak Truth Summit will take place on Oct. 20-21 at Chicago State University and the Jolly Pumpkin in Hyde Park. The Summit is presented by The Impact Alliance in collaboration with Chicago Black Women in Tech and Womanist Words. This two-day summit has been designed to restore, build, and empower women of color through networking, workshops, panel discussions and a keynote speech delivered by Alicia Garza.
