The timing of the tour is in line with the 10th anniversary of Internet Essentials, Comcast’s low-cost broadband adoption program for low-income households with grammar, high school, and college students; seniors; veterans; people with disabilities, and public housing residents enrolled in public assistance programs, ranging from Medicaid, the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) and the National School Lunch Program (NSLP) to the federal Supplemental Security Income (SSI) and housing assistance programs. The Village of Robbins is in negotiations with the Illinois Council of Police for a contract for the Village’s police officers after officers called off on Friday, Oct.1st. On Tuesday, Oct. 5th, the officers were back at work with a new Village of Robbins Police Chief being sworn in.
Congresswoman Robin L. Kelly (IL-02) announced today, that five community health centers in the South Suburbs and Chicago’s South Side have been awarded a total of more than $4 million in infrastructure improvement grants from the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services.
Today, Rep. Davis urged the U. S. Senate to schedule a vote for H.R. 2062, the Protecting Older Workers Against Discrimination Act, which restores critical, well-established workplace protections for older Americans that were weakened in 2009 by the Supreme Court. With this important legislation, Congress stands up for older workers facing age discrimination and empowers them to hold their employers accountable for unfair practices. H.R. 2062 was passed in the House of Representatives. Davis thanked his colleague, Rep. Bobby Scott, for introducing the legislation.

The Emerald South Economic Development Collaborative and Comcast today announced the launch of the South Side Connectivity Collaborative (SSCC). Powered by Comcast, the new initiative is designed to connect more residents of four South Side neighborhoods to the Internet through a combination of new resources and existing programs. The neighborhoods include Bronzeville, Grand Boulevard, Washington Park and Woodlawn.
