“Heart of a Warrior” Contest Announces Chicago Winner
For the last month, the United States Army has been recognizing outstanding high school athletes in the Chicago Area through the “Heart of a Warrior” digital campaign. This campaign was sponsored by the US Army and activated by BRAINBOX Immersive Marketing. Five nominees shared their stories, displaying exceptional leadership skills, community service and overcoming adversity while exemplifying the same heart of a warrior that is displayed by the US Army. Their communities were encouraged to vote for the student athlete who most represented the ideals of the Heart of a Warrior campaign, but only one winner was chosen as the 2022 “Heart of a Warrior” Honor Recipient.

Earlier this month, i.c.stars alumni in Chicago and Milwaukee compete d in small groups to present their winning idea which all embraced cutting edge technologies . The winn ing team was announced on July 15 and included alumni students Angel Delgado and Khalil Hall.

The Small Business Administration assists those affected by Calumet City condo fire
On Monday, May 30th, there was a fire at The Park of River Oaks Condominium, located at 150 Park Ave., in Calumet City. The Small Business Administration opened a temporary Disaster Loan Outreach Center in early July to assist residents and businesses affected by the fire after Governor JB Pritzker sent a letter to the Small Business Administration. That letter requested a disaster declaration and allows residents and businesses to apply for a low-interest disaster loan from the Small Business Administration. The declaration covers Cook County, Lake County in Indiana, as well as DuPage, Kane, Lake, McHenry and Will counties in Illinois.

‘Sunset 1919’ memorializes the lives lost during the 1919 Race Riots
In Chicago, on July 27th, 1919, Eugene Williams, a young African American boy was killed while swimming in Lake Michigan by a group of white people. It led to riots where 1,000 Black families lost their homes when they were torched by people rioting, and 23 Black people were killed.
