La’Mont R. Williams is running for 16th District of the Illinois State Senate. The seat is currently occupied by State Senator Jacqueline Y. Collins. Collins is running for the United States Congressional seat that 1st District Congressman Bobby Rush is vacating.
ATTORNEY GENERAL RAOUL: ILLINOIS RECEIVES OVER $800 MILLION FROM TOBACCO MANUFACTURERS
Attorney General Kwame Raoul on Friday, April 22, announced Illinois has received more than $804 million from tobacco manufacturers as part of the 1998 Tobacco Master Settlement Agreement (MSA). In addition to receiving its annual MSA payment, more than $258 million, Illinois has also received more than $546 million tobacco manufacturers were recently required to release. The funding had previously been withheld from annual MSA payments to the state.

Dr. Gayle’s presidency will begin on July 1.
Doctor uses social media to educate community
Dr. Erica E. Taylor, along with the Chicago Department of Public Health, have launched a bi-weekly Instagram Live show called Dr. Taylor’s Table. The show will focus on health disparities, health and racial equity, wellness as well as the social determinants of health.

DIXMOOR RECEIVES $2 MILLION FOR NEW WATER MAIN PROJECT
The Village of Dixmoor’s water infrastructure issues have been well documented from water main breaks to boil orders and shut offs. On Friday, April 15, Cook County President Toni Preckwinkle and Cook County Commissioner Deborah Simms, joined Congresswoman Robin Kelly and Paul Culberson, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers District Commander, to present a $2 million check to Dixmoor Mayor Fitzgerald Roberts for a new water main project.
South Suburban College National Champion Basketball Team Earns Coach and Player of the Year Honors
The South Suburban College (SSC) Men’s Basketball Team won the college’s first-ever National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II National Championship on March 19, 2022. They also earned the distinction as the first team in NJCAA DII history to go undefeated. Head Coach John Pigatti and the team visited the Regular Meeting of the South Suburban College Board of Trustees on April 14 to present their trophies and announce their newest national accolades including National Coach and Player of the Year awards.
