Green City Market (GCM), the nonprofit organization behind Chicago’s premier sustainable farmers’ market, is hosting its first installment of the 2023 Sustainable Supper Series at The Paramount Group’s Avondale-based restaurant, Eden. The event takes place on from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, March 21, and tickets will include a specialty cocktail (or mocktail), a three-course meal sourced locally and sustainably from Green City Market farmers, and a live panel discussing the important impact that farmers’ markets have on the local food system.
Chef Sebastian White of The Evolved Network and Chef Devon Quinn, Chief Culinary Officer for eden, are thrilled to present “Sprouts of Change”, a five-course collaboration dinner from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, March 14. Guests will enjoy passed bites, dinner, and wine pairings–with each of the five courses created by either Devon or Sebastian, ending with a dessert they’ve created together. All proceeds from the dinner will directly support The Evolved Network in their mission to provide culinary, gardening, and service experiences to equip youth in systematically oppressed Chicago communities. Programs offer transformative healing, useful real life skills, and the support needed to evolve into masters of their own unique gifts.
More than 400 students from districts across the south suburbs came together at Governor’s State University on Monday, February 27, for a Black History Performing Arts Showcase. The theme of the showcase was “As One” and was a collaborative effort between Rich Township High School District 227, Southland College Prep High School, Elementary School District 159, Matteson School District 162, and Park Forest-Chicago Heights School District 163.

The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) is reminding small businesses in Cook County affected by the condominium complex fire that occurred at The Park of River Oaks condominium in Calumet City on May 30, 2022, that the deadline is approaching to apply for working capital disaster loans. Noting that social determinants of health—like nutritious food and a place to call home—play a big role in health and well-being, the South Side Healthy Community Organization (SSHCO) today announced a significant investment in community resources as a key part of building health equity on Chicago’s South Side. Nearly one million dollars has been committed to local organizations that provide nutritious food, employment services, stable housing, emergency financial support and transportation services focused on getting South Side residents to and from medical appointments.
State Representative Anna Moeller’s bill would require candidates for political office to include email addresses on petitions filed with their statement of candidacy. Already, candidates provide a standard mailing address. This legislation would move that requirement into the 21st century.
State Representative Debbie Meyers-Martin of the 38th District hosted a ceremonial event for Stroke Awareness in the Southland on Friday, February 24th, at Governors State University.
