The public voting period for the Illinois state flag redesign contest has kicked off and will run through Feb. 14. Illinoisans can choose to vote for one of the Illinois Flag Commission’s Top 10 new designs, or one of three former flag designs, including the current one.

In 2016, Beat The Streets Chicago and Chicago Public Schools began a partnership for a wrestling program that would make wrestling accessible to students throughout the city of Chicago. Since then, the CPS SCORE Wrestling Program has had more than 400 wrestlers enrolled and expanded to 20 sites.
Kimberly Williams has been with the Maryville Catholic Youth Organization (CYO) since 1987. She is the program coordinator. In grade school, she was part of the sports programs that were part of the Maryville Catholic Youth Organization. When she graduated from University of Illinois, her mentor asked if she would be interested in working at CYO. It was her dream job. She met some of her best friends through CYO sports, doing track and field or cheerleading.
Freddie Taylor founded Urban Intellectuals in 2015. Taylor’s father has a strong passion for history and culture, which he instilled in Taylor. Taylor reading books and learning about Black history led him to create Black History Flash Cards, the creation of Sankofa Club and the Sankofa Circle.

Antoinette Adell Mahoney, along with her twin brother Anthony Odell Mahoney, were born to Neily and Naomi Mahoney December 16,1940. From birth, the twins were very close and started to protect each other coming out the womb. On July 24, 1942, their younger sister Iris Meredith Mahoney was born and it was like they were triplets! At an early age, the Mahoney children began participating in activities provided by the local park district and other community locations. Antoinette acquired a competitive spirit and developed a love for track, tennis, board games, reading and trivia. Her love for information made her a successful student at Park Manor Grammar School and Hirsh High School. After high school, Antoinette attended the University of Illinois (Urbana) and CTC, where she received a Bachelor’s Degree in Education and two Master degrees.
