Black is Beautiful Volume 2 Launches Globally to Support the National Black Brewers Association

Black is Beautiful, an influential initiative launched by Weathered Souls Brewing CO in 2020 in support of equality and social justice reform, is making a resounding comeback. This time, the movement stands firmly alongside the National Black Brewers Association, with 100% of the proceeds supporting the newly launched organization in its efforts to foster inclusivity and black representation in the brewing industry.

Clerk of the Circuit Court of Cook County making legal system more accessible

With the opening of a call center, as well as a program that goes into the community, the Clerk of the Circuit Court of Cook County is creating pathways to make the office more accessible for people. While the office might have operated in a silo in past years, Iris Martinez, Clerk of the Circuit Court of Cook County, is looking to change that. Martinez and her team came in, did some reforms, and started to do outreach in the community to inform people about the resources that are available.

Mentoring Youth Through Technology turns 10

Ten years ago, Randle Carter founded Mentoring Youth Technology with the goal to give back to youth in at risk and underserved communities to expose them to technology careers. Carter has more than 30 years of experience in Information Technology. He learned about computers from a friend and he excelled in it. Throughout his career, he has worked as a desktop support engineer, network engineer, project manager and also started his own consulting firm. He has been self-employed since in 2003. He did all of that without a college degree.

Stakeholders partner to create community engagement model for public safety

Every other Friday, Teamwork Englewood hosts activations at Moran Park, located at 5727 S. Racine. At those activations, Teamwork Englewood provides food, services, entertainment and giveaways. It is part of Teamwork Englewood’s community safety engagement model that aims to deter gun violence. Teamwork Englewood, the City of Chicago and McCormick Foundation have partnered for a community safety engagement model that identifies a community’s needs and directs resources to areas that experience high levels of violence.

Project OneTen is seeking mentors

Project OneTen is currently seeking mentors for its program that prepares young Black and Brown boys for their transition from eighth grade into high school. Dirrick Butler, Project Ten’s founder, said the organization is looking for young professionals interested in answering the call to what we see is happening in the city everyday.

Leadership Greater Chicago (LGC) has named Myetie Hamilton the next Chief Executive Officer of the region’s premier civic leadership development organization, effective July 24, 2023. The LGC Search Committee, comprised of board members and Fellows, led a rigorous national search in partnership with Koya Partners, a search firm that specializes in placing CEOs in mission-driven roles. Myetie, a proud LGC Fellow since 2016, will step into the CEO position as the first Black American woman to lead the organization.
