More than 700 guests gathered as blues legend Buddy Guy, acclaimed artist Hebru Brantley, fashion visionary Don C and Grammy Award-winning poet J. Ivy joined more than 20 honorees celebrating Chicago’s influence on culture nationwide

Chicago’s influence on American culture took center stage on Saturday, August 15, 2026 as more than 700 guests gathered at the Obama Presidential Center for the 5th Annual Chicago Culture Ball, presented by Eventnoire.

The evening brought together generations of cultural icons, artists, entrepreneurs, executives, creatives and tastemakers for a celebration of Chicago’s extraordinary contributions to music, art, fashion, entertainment, business and culture.

Among this year’s distinguished honorees were legendary blues icon Buddy Guy, internationally acclaimed contemporary artist Hebru Brantley, fashion entrepreneur and cultural visionary Don C, and Grammy Award-winning poet, artist and author J. Ivy, along with more than 20 additional leaders and changemakers.

Held at the Obama Presidential Center on Chicago’s South Side, the evening celebrated both the legends who helped establish Chicago’s cultural legacy and a new generation of leaders carrying that influence forward.

“Chicago has always been a city that creates culture that the rest of the world embraces,” said Jeff Osuji, Founder of Eventnoire and the Chicago Culture Ball. “The Chicago Culture Ball is about making sure we celebrate and give recognition to the people behind that influence.

To bring more than 700 people together at the Obama Presidential Center to honor our icons, innovators and next generation of leaders was an incredible moment for our city.”

A NIGHT OF CULTURE, LEGACY AND CHICAGO PRIDE

Throughout the evening, some of Chicago’s most influential cultural voices took the stage for memorable moments celebrating the city and its legacy.

Cultural curator and media personality Kenny Burns presented an award to acclaimed contemporary artist Hebru Brantley, who returned to his hometown of Chicago to be recognized for his impact on contemporary art and culture.

Buddy Guy, one of the most celebrated blues musicians in history and a defining figure in Chicago blues, was flanked by members of his family as he received his honor, creating one of the evening’s most poignant moments.

Grammy Award-winning poet and artist J. Ivy brought the evening back to the city that helped shape him. During his acceptance remarks, Ivy reflected on a line from his poetry about never letting someone down and told the audience that Chicago has never let him down.

The moment captured a theme that resonated throughout the evening: the lasting relationship between Chicago and the artists, entrepreneurs and cultural leaders the city has produced.

For generations, Chicago has been at the center of cultural movements that have transformed American life. From blues, gospel and house music to contemporary art, fashion, architecture, food, entrepreneurship and business innovation, the city has continually produced individuals and ideas whose influence reaches far beyond its borders.

Now in its fifth year, the Chicago Culture Ball has become a signature celebration of Black excellence, bringing together creatives, entrepreneurs, executives, artists, philanthropists, entertainers, media and tastemakers while recognizing individuals whose contributions continue to move culture forward.
