The DuSable Museum Announces Free Admission for Veterans

Beginning this Veterans Day, all military veterans will receive complimentary admission to the Museum year-round.

The DuSable Black History Museum and Education Center announced the launch of a new initiative providing free Museum admission to veterans beginning Veterans Day, November 11, 2026. The initiative recognizes the service and sacrifice of veterans while creating greater opportunities for them to engage with the stories, people and experiences being preserved and amplified through the work of the Museum.

“Veterans have made extraordinary sacrifices in service to this country, and their stories are an essential part of our collective history,” said Perri Irmer, President and CEO of The DuSable Black History Museum and Education Center. “By providing free admission to veterans, we want to ensure The DuSable Museum is a place where they always feel welcomed, recognized and connected to the history we preserve and share.”

As the nation observes Veterans Day, The DuSable Museum is honoring the occasion by bringing greater attention to the experiences and contributions of Black servicemembers, whose stories have always been an important part of American history. The DuSable Museum has admitted active-duty service members and first responders at no charge for many years and is expanding its free admission policies to include military veterans.

On Veterans Day, the Museum will offer educational programming highlighting the experiences of Black servicemembers during the Vietnam War. The DuSable Museum invites both veterans and the general public to a special pre-screening of “Soul Patrol,” a film highlighting a hidden chapter of American military history and the Vietnam War’s first Black special ops team. Taking place from 6-8:30 p.m. in the Ames Auditorium, the screening will be followed by a discussion exploring Black military service during the Vietnam era, featuring Dr. Lionel Kimble, Associate Professor of History and Africana Studies at Chicago State University.

Beginning November 11, 2026, and continuing year-round, veterans will receive complimentary general admission to The DuSable Museum upon presenting a valid military or veteran identification. Additional information about programming is available at www.dusablemuseum.org.
