‘Community In Motion’, Peloton and LISC Wellness Initiative Comes To Auburn Gresham
By Citizen Staff Writer
With a combined history expanding over 6 decades the Peloton company and LISC are not strangers to changing lives. Since 2012, The Peloton company’s technology, hardware and production changed the workout game. Peloton’s one-man workout routine shuts down the excuse of an individual desiring a workout regimen and not having enough time for a fitness class. Individuals can now work out with a coach through technology right in the comforts of their home.
The Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC), Americas largest community organization has formed vibrant and resilient communities since 1979. From wealth building to closing gaps in healthcare LISC has proven they are experts in changing lives. Their expertise in affordable housing, community development, retail and educational space development has helped tens of thousands find employment and improve their financial lifestyles.
Recently, Peloton and LISC partnered to bring an impactful fitness experience to the Auburn Gresham Community. The Greater Auburn Gresham Development Corporation (GAGDC) is the new home to a Healthier Lifestyle Hub, the Community in Motion Initiative.
Below is a Question-and-Answer interview with the great folks at Peloton.
CITIZEN: Can you talk about the Community in Motion Initiative and how it will benefit the community?
PELOTON: The Community in Motion initiative is a new pillar of Peloton’s social impact work that advances our commitment to meeting people where they are. At Peloton, we believe that everyone should have access to movement, but we recognize that systemic barriers often stand in the way of well-being. This initiative is designed to bridge that gap by bringing our world-class equipment, content, and instructor-led motivation directly into the heart of under resourced communities.
CITIZEN: Who is the brainchild behind this initiative and how did this partnership became a reality?
PELOTON: This initiative was born from a collaborative effort between Peloton and our longstanding partners at LISC, with whom we’ve been working with since 2021. The partnership became a reality through a shared mission: to provide equitable access to health resources in underserved areas.
By combining LISC’s expertise in community development with Peloton’s global brand, powerful content, and innovative products, we hope to create a model for health equity that furthers residents’ ability to take control of their wellness journeys. Our goal is to support the revitalization of community wellness centers and provide our high-quality fitness equipment.
CITIZEN: People in society have an opportunity to live longer by choosing a healthy lifestyle, cooking wellness and exercising are key components of becoming healthy. How and what role will this program play to the community and activate more community participation?
PELOTON: We know that healthy lifestyles are built through consistency and support. It’s our hope that the Community in Motion program serves as a catalyst for participation in three key ways:
● Lowering Barriers: Providing free, high-quality equipment in safe, familiar local spaces.
● Building Social Connection: Using our "leaderboard" spirit to foster real-world connections through group programming.
● Holistic Wellness: Integrating not just cycling, but yoga, meditation, and strength training, all available in the Peloton platform, into the ongoing programming of our community partners to support mental and physical health.
CITIZEN: How many Peloton bikes are installed at this specific location as part of the broader 75-bike rollout across Chicago?
PELOTON: As part of our broader 75-bike rollout across the Chicago region, the Auburn Gresham Healthy Lifestyle Hub features 15 Peloton Bike+ units.
CITIZEN: How often will activations, such as group rides and wellness programming, take place, and who will be able to participate?
PELOTON: Partners are committed to a regular cadence of wellness programming. Community members can expect ongoing activations, including curated group rides, wellness workshops, and seasonal health challenges.
CITIZEN: Will the bikes be available for community members to use year-round, or only during scheduled programming?
PELOTON: These bikes are meant to be available for community members to use year-round during regular facility operating hours, ensuring that fitness fits into their daily lives.
CITIZEN: Will Peloton instructors, such as Nico Sarani, continue to be involved in future activations, and how can community members access or sign up for those sessions?
PELOTON: Our instructors are the heartbeat of the Peloton experience. Nico Sarani, known for her transformative yoga and meditation practices, along with our global roster of instructors, will continue to play a pivotal role in our social impact programming. We encourage everyone to follow Peloton and our local community partners on social media for announcements regarding appearances.
