Chicago, IL—Chicago brothers and artists Amoz and Malachi Wright have completed a new mural at the front entrance of the Chicago Park District’s Kennicott Fieldhouse at 4434 S. Lake Park Avenue. The mural celebrates the Chicago Park District’s positive impact on the community and promotes a message of unity.
The bright and bold mural depicts four characters of varying ages participating in activities offered by the Chicago Park District (pickleball, dance, basketball, and culinary arts) with the word “UNITY” on the right-hand side. It was completed with the help of children from the community, who would stop and paint on their way to and from summer camp at the park district.
The mural’s four connecting characters were inspired by Mount Rushmore and the brothers’ family. The pickleball player represents their late father, the dancer represents their mother, and the young girl and boy represent an amalgamation of their nieces and nephews.
“Our father lived a rich and rewarding life,” said Malachi. “It was important to us to honor him through this mural.”
“The unity message is reflected not just in the word on the mural, but also by the fact that each of the characters are overlapping,” said Amoz. “This is meant to remind and inspire people that we are all ‘one’. We are all on this Earth together. When we are unified, we can live life as one family committed to supporting and making life better for one another.”
Darren Boyd, a former coach at the park district, commissioned the piece from the Wright brothers in the fall of 2024. They started working on the design last summer. When the design was completed, they hired mason Kevin Gates to build a masonry wall for the mural, an intensive process that took several weeks to complete. They began working on the mural on July 3rd and completed it within three days, on July 6th.
Amoz is a painter, art instructor, musician, and business owner. He has completed more than ten murals across the globe, including in Australia, Oklahoma, and California. This is his fourth mural in Chicago’s Bronzeville neighborhood. He is married and the joyful father of two children, ages two and nine.
Malachi lives in Southern California. He graduated from UCLA in 2024 and is currently pursuing his master’s degree at Cal State Long Beach. He designed an album cover for Snoop Dogg and worked with Snoop Dogg’s son on an NFT project. He’s also collaborated on art and design projects with Nike, the Carolina Panthers, the NFL, Disney and Marvel.
Amoz and Malachi are currently working on a mural at Harvey City Hall. They plan to complete the project next month.
Both murals are projects of Golden Street, a family business Amoz and Malachi co-founded with their brother, Ira. Golden Street is a creative organization with a mission to use art to spread awareness of the Kingdom of God. Their vision is to eventually grow the business into a film studio that tells empowering stories.
