2025 BRIDGING THE GAP Parade Steps Off to Unite Communities

Maywood, Ill. — The Proviso Leyden Council for Community Action, Inc. (PLCCA) is thrilled to announce the 2025 Bridging the Gap Parade, set to take place on Saturday, Sept. 13. This highly anticipated event invites community members to celebrate unity and diversity across the Proviso Township. The parade will feature a distinguished lineup of Grand Marshals, including United States Representative Danny K. Davis; Speaker of the Illinois House of Representatives Emanuel “Chris” Welch; Illinois Senate Majority Leader Kimberly A. Lightford; President of the Cook County Board Toni Preckwinkle; Art Norman from NBC5 Chicago; Jorge DeSantiago from Telemundo Chicago; and Rufus Williams from The Talk of Chicago 1690 WVON.

Immediately following the parade is the Community Resource Fair at the Proviso East High School football stadium. This year's event promises a dynamic lineup of engaging activities and performances, underscoring the theme of community solidarity. Highlights include:

· Community Resource Fair - Discover valuable resources and information from local organizations dedicated to supporting citizens across various needs.

· Fun Activities for Families - Enjoy a variety of entertaining and interactive activities designed for children and families to partake in.

· A Meet and Greet with DJs Hugo H and First Lady of JAM98.COM; DJ Nehpats of POWER 92; Grand Marshals, and Political Leaders. Come and ask questions about the music business, take pictures, and network.

· Performances- Experience an exciting performance by Rico – “Michael Jackson”; Dance Troupe performances, Jesse White Tumblers; and High School Bands.

· KID ZONE – Face painting, Bouncy houses and slides, games and more

· Community Engagement and Giveaways - Participate in activities and receive giveaways courtesy of BMU and other community partners, underscoring the spirit of coming together.

The event proudly counts on the support and participation of notable figures such as Political Leaders President Toni Preckwinkle, The office of Congressman Danny K. Davis, and Senator Kimberly A. Lightford, Village of Broadview Mayor Thompson, Village of Bellwood Mayor Harvey, Village of Maywood Mayor Booker, alongside the Proviso Township Supervisor Michael Corrigan, various community organizations, Proviso Villages, Proviso Area School Districts, faith-based leaders, and local businesses.

"We are excited to bring back the Bridging the Gap Parade that Bishop Claude Porter, Founder of PLCCA, Inc. began over 20 years ago, which was created to bring together community leaders, schools, political and faith-based leaders, and the community at large to unite on that day on one accord. It is a celebration of the diverse and vibrant communities within Proviso Township," said Claudette Harrell, Executive Vice President of PLCCA. "This event highlights our commitment to fostering unity and understanding among our residents."

Time: Parade starts at 10:00 am – Community Fair at 12 PM following the parade.

Route: Parade will begin at 25th Ave. and Maywood Drive, continue to Washington Blvd to 1st Ave., ending at Proviso East High School’s Football Stadium in Maywood, Ill.
