CHICAGO COMMUNITY BUILDERS COLLECTIVE AND PARTNERS PROVIDE 300 MEALS FOR SNAP RECIPIENTS IN NORTH LAWNDALE

Local partners step up to provide meals for families affected by federal government shutdown

CHICAGO -- Chicago Community Builders Collective (CCBC), the general contractor for the Bally’s Chicago Casino project, in partnership with UCAN Chicago, Bally’s Chicago, McHugh Concrete Construction, UJAMAA Construction, and Brown and Momen, hosted two-free meal giveaways, providing meals to Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) recipients impacted by the longest federal government shutdown in U.S. history. “The Chicago Community Builders Collective is dedicated to creating opportunities that strengthen our city and its people,” said a spokesperson from the Chicago Community Builders Collective. “Our partners share our commitment to support families in North Lawndale and uplift Chicago neighborhoods. We’re proud to stand with local residents in their times of need.”

“UCAN is committed to serving the community,” said UCAN Chicago President and CEO Christa Hamilton. “We want to show families that they’re not alone during this difficult time.”

At UCAN Chicago in North Lawndale, volunteers distributed 300 sandwiches, chips, and drinks to SNAP recipients. The meals were purchased from Alex’s Food Truck, which typically operates as a food vendor for the workforce at various construction sites across Chicago.

“Bally’s Chicago Casino is honored to support UCAN alongside the Chicago Community Builders’ Collective,” said Monica Scott, Vice President of Community Engagement at Bally’s Chicago. “Through our donation and on-site food distribution, we’re helping provide nourishment and hope to those in need. This partnership reflects our continued commitment to uplifting the communities we serve.”

“UJAMAA Construction believes that success is measured by the impact we have on the community,” said Jimmy Akintonde, President and CEO of UJAMAA Construction. “Through this partnership with CCBC to support families in need, we’re creating impact.”

The initiative aimed to help ease food insecurity for those in need in the aftermath of the longest federal government shutdown in U.S. history, which left nearly 2 million Illinois residents without access to the critical benefits they depend on.

“At Brown and Momen, we believe that building strong communities goes hand in hand with building strong structures,” said Ernest Brown, President & Founder of Brown & Momen, Inc. “Giving back and supporting our neighbors is part of who we are, and we’re proud to stand alongside our partners to help families facing food insecurity.”

"McHugh Concrete Construction values relationships above all. We also value the people in the communities in which we work,” said Vanessa Fonseca, Sr. Talent & Culture Manager at McHugh Concrete Construction Inc. “Supporting our neighbors is an important part of who we are, and we are proud to help provide access to essential resources to those in need."

This event was part of CCBC and its partners’ ongoing effort to invest in and uplift Chicago communities, especially during times of uncertainty.
