CHICAGO, Ill. — The Leaguers of the Chicago Urban League are proud to announce their 70th Anniversary Champagne Toast, a celebration of legacy, leadership, and style, taking place on Saturday, May 31, at the historic Odyssey Country Club, Tinley Park, IL. This milestone event will honor seven decades of civic service and social impact while highlighting the enduring power of Black excellence in community leadership and cultural expression.
In a dazzling fusion of history and couture to metaphorically represent how we are working to fashion our future, the evening will feature the signature designs of legendary Chicago designer Barbara Bates, whose work has graced celebrities, dignitaries, and fashion lovers around the world. Known for her bold creativity and deep community roots, Bates will debut a commemorative collection inspired by the Leaguers’ legacy and the powerful Black women who have shaped its 70-year journey.
The Leaguers have always stood at the intersection of service and sophistication. To celebrate 70 years with Barbara Bates—a woman whose artistry mirrors our mission—is both a tribute and a testament to our enduring vision.
Founded in 1955, The Leaguers of the Chicago Urban League has long served as a philanthropic auxiliary, empowering the next generation through scholarships, service projects, and unwavering support of the Chicago Urban League’s mission to advance equity and economic opportunity for Black communities.
The day event will include a plated lunch, champagne toast, and a runway showcase of Bates’ exclusive designs. Proceeds from the celebration will support scholarships and youth programming through the Chicago Urban League’s Youth and Family Services Department.
Founded in 1955, the Leaguers is a dynamic women’s auxiliary of the Chicago Urban League dedicated to volunteerism, youth support, and the advancement of equity in education, economic development, and social justice.
Barbara Bates is a Chicago-based fashion designer and philanthropist known for her innovative and empowering designs. Through her work, she has uplifted countless lives, both on the runway and in the community, through the Barbara Bates Foundation.
