February 6, 2025, Chicago – Twist Out Cancer, an international non-profit charitable organization that provides social and emotional support to individuals touched by cancer through creative arts programming, announced today that its Brushes With Cancer Art Exhibition and Celebration will be held at The Writers Theater in Glencoe on Saturday, March 15. The event will feature an opportunity to view 20 unique pieces of art that reflect 20 personal journeys with cancer. Guests can also enjoy food, drinks, music, and dancing.
This year’s program features 20 Inspirations and 20 artists from 14 states and two countries. Brushes with Cancer strategically matches artists with individuals touched by cancer (Inspirations). Over a period of six months, the Artists and Inspirations work together to build a relationship built on mutual understanding and trust. The artist creates a unique piece of art that reflects the Inspiration’s journey with cancer. The program culminates in a celebration of survivorship and hope, where the art is auctioned off, with all proceeds benefiting the mission and work of Twist Out Cancer.
Over the last 13 years, Twist Out Cancer has positively impacted more than 267,000 people through its Brushes With Cancer programs, Twistshops, and more. This includes 1,574 people who participated in the Brushes with Cancer program as Inspiration or Artist, which led to 787 unique pieces of art representing 787 individual journeys with cancer. This page has examples of the hundreds of pieces of artwork and stories that were part of Brushes With Cancer programs over the last 13 years.
“Through every Brushes With Cancer program, we witness the magic that happens when Inspirations and Artists come together. With this collaboration, they create something truly extraordinary: a reflection of resilience, strength, and hope,” said Jenna Benn Shersher, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Twist Out Cancer. “This year’s program is no different – it is a testament to the healing power of creativity, connection, and shared experiences.”
