Comcast Awards Project SYNCERE with $15,000 Grant to Support STEM Education for Students in Chicago
Partnership Includes Donation of Adaptive Toys to La Rabida Children’s Hospital
CHICAGO (December 18, 2025) – Comcast today announced a $15,000 grant to Project SYNCERE’s STEM in Motion program to support Chicago students in their pursuit of STEM-related fields. The company also donated 25 laptops to graduates of Project SYNCERE’s ENpowered program, which provides students with an introduction to engineering.
As part of Comcast’s Team UP employee volunteerism and community engagement initiative, more than 25 volunteers from Comcast’s local engineering team also recently partnered with Project SYNCERE to modify and adapt toys with assistive technology for pediatric patients at La Rabida Children's Hospital. Led by Project SYNCERE’s team, volunteers modified 85 bubble machines to allow children with physical disabilities to operate them via switch use. The toys were donated ahead of the holiday season.
“Our partnership with Comcast allows us to put STEM into action in a way that directly impacts children’s lives,” said Jason Coleman, Executive Director and Co-Founder of Project SYNCERE. “By adapting toys with assistive technology, we’re not only creating joy for kids at La Rabida Children’s Hospital but also showing how engineering can create experiences for everyone.”
“These toy donations bring joy and accessibility to our patients, ensuring every child can experience the magic of the holiday season,” said Anne Mullen, Director of Special Events and Corporate Development at La Rabida Children’s Hospital. ”Partnerships like this help us continue our mission of providing exceptional care and creating inclusive opportunities for children with disabilities.”
This marks the second consecutive year in which Comcast has partnered with Project SYNCERE during the holiday season to adapt and donate toys for children with disabilities. In 2024, Comcast donated more than 75 toys to Easterseals DuPage & Fox Valley, which provides comprehensive pediatric outpatient rehabilitation services for children throughout the Midwest.
“At Comcast, we believe in using technology to make a difference in our communities,” said Grace Hong Duffin, Vice President of External and Government Affairs for Comcast's Greater Chicago Region. “We are honored to partner with Project SYNCERE and La Rabida Children’s Hospital to bring joy and accessibility to children and their families during the holiday season.”
Comcast’s Project SYNCERE grant follows more than $35 million in cash and in-kind contributions from the company to Chicago nonprofit organizations over the last three years. Comcast’s contribution to Project SYNCERE and La Rabida Children’s Hospital are part of Project UP, a $1 billion commitment to advance digital opportunity and help create a future of unlimited possibilities.
