(Lynwood, IL) Jada D. Curry-Mayor of the Village of Lynwood- along with Lynwood Police Chief and the entire Lynwood Police Department will surprise 8-year-old Keyjuan Andrewin with thousands of dollars in Christmas gifts on what has been a traumatic holiday season for he and his family. Keyjuan and his family are scheduled to enter Lynwood Village Hall at 2:15 PM.
Keyjuan was born with Hypoplastic Heart Syndrome. He has struggled with and endured over 58 medical procedures and 15 surgeries over the course of six year on earth. However, he has never given up on his dream of becoming a Lynwood Police Officer. His parents approached Mayor Curry and Chief Thomas about the possibility of him visiting the Lynwood Police Department. It was at that point that the Mayor and Chief both decided to make this an even more incredible experience for young Andrew by swearing him in as an honorary police officer. On April 9th, Mayor Curry swore little Keyjuan in as an honorary Lynwood Police Officer. His now late father, Dujuan Andrewin stood by in tears of fulfilling his sickly son’s wishes.
However, in late October Mr. Dujaun Andrewin lost his life suddenly to an unexpected illness. He was the breadwinner for his family allowing his wife to stay home and take care of Keyjuan who is severely challenged.
“Little Keyjuan’s health challenges had been very stressful on not only his parents, but his extended family as well. However, now with the untimely death of his father, our goal is to bring an everlasting smile on Keyjuan’s face that will light up the world this afternoon. It is our mission to bring a smile to his face at Christmas time. says Mayor Curry.
Chief Gregory Thomas adds, “We are grateful for Keyjuan’s life, but moreover his courageous spirit. It is his zest to live that has inspired the Lynwood community. In addition, his respect for the badge has brought so much joy to our department. We know that his father, Dujuan, is smiling right now knowing little Keyjuan will have toys for Christmas.
On April 9th,then six-year-old Keyjuan was sworn in as an honorary Lynwood Policeman during the opening portion of the Regular meeting of the Lynwood Village Board of Trustee meeting. The Chief placed a Lynwood Police badge to Keyjuan’s uniform. He was immediately escorted to an awaiting Lynwood Patrol Car where he was officially began his duty. Chief Thomas drove Officer Andrewin throughout the community as part of his patrol duties as a Lynwood Police Officer.
