Austin Square, which is located at 5405-5411 W. Madison, is the entrepreneurial endeavor from Anthony and Taneka Anderson. Their boutique, Dressed1213, TNT Private event space and TNT Rooftop are housed there.
Taneka Anderson always wanted to own a boutique, and her husband encouraged her to do it. Anthony gave her the support she needed; he opened an LLC for her, and she was able to start her mobile boutique. She was looking for a space for a brick-and-mortar store. They found a building on the West side.
Anthony Anderson said it was like a seed was planted when they saw how much space there was in the building and they thought about what they could put in the space, in addition to the retail boutique, that would be the most impactful for the community. They came up with the idea for TNT Rooftop and TNT Private, the event space.
“We wanted to add some luxury to the neighborhood, that we didn’t feel we saw. We just knew we wanted to add a vibe that would be long lasting and something that would generate money, while giving back at the same time,” Anthony said.
Anthony Anderson watched his mother who was an entrepreneur, so it wasn’t a stretch for him to consider starting Austin Square. He is also a general contractor, real estate developer and the owner and operator of Xpert Transport, LLC. He actually built Austin Square.
The Andersons describe TNT Rooftop as a fine dining experience that patrons will not be able to get anywhere else. Anthony said the cuisine that is offered is the best in the city, with some of the best prices. The menu includes lamb chops, lobster, steaks, crab fries, a taco bar, as well as hamburgers and fries.
The rooftop can host up to 174 people and the downstairs can host up to 78 people. The private dining space can host up to 30 people. On Mondays, people can relax and have $6 cocktails which they call the “six-dollar holler.” On Wednesdays, which they call “Unwind Wednesdays,” people can have a wine tasting, with a charcuterie board. Thursdays they have Ladies Night all day and Fridays are Seafood Fridays. On Sundays they have brunch.
Taneka Anderson said her favorite items on the menu are the crab fries and the TNT seafood pasta, which has a 5 oz. lobster tail, jumbo lump crab meat and two tiger shrimp over penne pasta. Anthony said his favorite item on the menu is the salad with the salmon bites. They said the most popular item on the menu is the tasting sampler, which includes blackened salmon over mashed potatoes, lamb chops over asparagus and chicken breast over fried rice, and it costs $59.
Dressed1213 is bringing out their Spring fashions and Taneka is preparing to host a fashion show at TNT Rooftop to celebrate the opening of the rooftop. She is looking for vendors and people to partner with for the fashion show.
The Andersons want to create a mural on the side of their building. They are looking for people from the community to provide input. They hope it will bring the community together and bring good energy to the community.
