THE LIVE ENTERTAINMENT EVENT TO BRING POSITIVE SOUNDS OF UNITY, PEACE, AND LOVE TO ONE OF CHICAGO’S MOST HISTORIC COMMUNITIES

(Chicago, IL) – Stephanie Coleman-Alderman of the 16th Ward- is announcing the much-anticipated Fourth Annual Englewood Music Fest. The Englewood Music Fest will be held in conjunction with the Greater Englewood Community Development Corporation (GECDC). Collectively they will celebrate “Englewood Excellence” -- its past, present. and the future. The event will feature live music, local vendors, back-to-school programming, prizes, and more!

“I am grateful to have such dynamic entertainers such as R&B Superstar Kelly Price, Chicago born hip-hop legend Twista and R&B legend Lenny Williams as well as other performers returning to their roots to bring joy, laughter, and peace to the thousands expected in attendance. Englewood is the very fiber of Chicago that produces talent, wonderful musicians, and products that can be viewed and heard nationwide. We are truly ENGLEWOOD PROUD!!”

The organizers are excited to coordinate this important event and are encouraging businesses and institutional partners who have helped revitalize the area to join in the sponsorship of this historic event for the Englewood area.

The day-long event will be free to the public and start at . Due to the ever-increasing mass crowds totaling over 5,000 people, this year’s fest has been moved to the Kennedy King Baseball field. It will feature local and the abovementioned nationally renowned musical artists as well as food, retail and service vendors, health awareness and screenings, school supplies, AND youth activities. Over 5,000 people are expected to attend in person.

A Community resource fair will be held during the day featuring Englewood arts collective. Various government agencies will be on-site providing services as well as health screenings by the Cook County Health Services. Also, there will be an onsite fresh market provided by Grow Greater Englewood as well Art Activations from Englewood Arts Collective.

Beginning her career in 1992,  Kelly Price originally performed backing vocals for Mariah Carey on multiple songs, including her Billboard Hot 100-number one singles "All I Want for Christmas Is You" and "Fantasy." She rose to wider prominence in 1997 following her uncredited performances on the number-one single "Mo Money Mo Problems" by the Notorious B.I.G. and the top-five single "Feel So Good" by Mase, prompting her to record as a lead artist. Her debut studio album, Soul of a Woman (1998).

 

Kelly received platinum certification by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA); its lead single, "Friend of Mine" (featuring R. Kelly and Ronald Isley) peaked within the top 20 of the Billboard Hot 100. She provided uncredited guest performances on Kanye West's 2016 songs "Ultralight Beam" and "Low Lights" (recording a sample of "So Alive" by Kings of Tomorrow), from his album The Life of Pablo. Price has won a Soul Train Music Award, and received nine Grammy Award nominations. 

 

Twista is best known for his chopper style of rapping and for once holding the title of fastest English-speaking rapper in the world according to Guinness World Records in 1992, being able to pronounce 598 syllables in 55 seconds, but his fastest peak burst was on DJ Kay Slay's "Rolling 50 Deep", coming in at 14.07 syllables per second.

 

In 1997, after appearing on Do or Die's hit single "Po Pimp", produced by the Legendary Traxster, Twista signed with Big Beat and Atlantic Records,] where he released his third album Adrenaline Rush and formed the group Speedknot Mobstaz, in 1998. His 2004 album Kamikaze topped the U.S. Billboard 200, after the success of the Billboard Hot 100 number-one single "Slow Jamz" (with Kanye West and Jamie Foxx). 

 

After winning several local talent contests, Lenny Williams signed his first recording contract with Fantasy Records. He cut two singles for the label, including "Lisa's Gone" and "Feelin Blue", written by John Fogerty of Creedence Clearwater Revival. In 1972, Williams joined the emerging funk band Tower of Power. A string of hits followed, including "So Very Hard to Go", "What Is Hip", "Don't Change Horses (In The Middle of the Stream)" and "Willing To Learn". During his two years with the group, Williams participated in three albums: Back To Oakland, Urban Renewal and the gold LP Tower of Power. Williams and Tower of Power toured throughout the United States, Europe, and Asia.

 

Popular Television Judge Greg Mathis will make an appearance along with popular Chicago area pastor Bill Winston who will provide the opening prayer. A special dedication will take place in honor of the late Cook County Commissioner Dennis Deer and as well as the late Dante Hall.
