(Chicago, IL) Early Walker- Senior Vice-President of Intergovernmental Affairs for Vehicle Management Solutions- will be joined by Five Chicago Aldermen; Stephanie Coleman (16th), David Moore (17th), Monique Scott (24th), Emma Mitts (37th), and Peter Chico (10th) as they will bring five families who have lost a parent to gun violence in 2024 to the Jewel Osco Store as VMS will surprise each family with a 400.00 Thanksgiving shopping spree on behalf of VMS.
“I am extremely grateful to Mr. Walker and VMS in thinking of these families as we enter the holiday season. It's obvious that these families will experience a void at their respective dinner tables. Gun violence often leaves pain, confusion and hardships for the loved ones left behind. We are hopeful that Mr. Walker’s kind gesture will go a long way for the guardians and remaining parents who must raise the children.” says Alderman Stephanie Coleman.
Unfortunately, these tragic occurrences have gone unsolved and the families have many questions. Some of the tragedies include but are not limited to:
Ondrea Monique King was a deeply loved member of the North Lawndale community, known for her faith and devotion to her family. She was tragically killed on the morning of Saturday, August 31, 2024, on the 3900 block of West Ogden when gunfire erupted at a gathering.
King’s mother, Shirley Parks, along with her children and grandchildren months later continue to grapple with her tragic loss.
In September of 2024 19-year-old Sierra Evans was found shot to death on the East side of Chicago. She turned 19 just days before her life was violently ripped away. According to the Chicago Police Department, officers responded to the scene in the 9500 block of South Avenue N around 9:30 a.m. It was a 911 call from a neighbor that brought police to the area, but it is believed the shooting took place much earlier.
Joining Early Walker at the Jewel Store will be Kevin Corcoran, CEO of Vehicle Management Solutions. “We feel a sense of obligation to engage with these Aldermen in bringing some form of relief and support to these bereaved families. It is most unfortunate that they must endure so much pain during this holiday season. Hopefully, our contribution can assist in the healing process.”
The five Aldermen have arranged for all five families to meet at the Jewel-Osco Grocery Store located at 95th and Ashland in Chicago at 9:45 AM. The families have not been informed of why they have been requested to be on site. Mr. Walker and Mr. Corcoran will greet the families at the main entrance, and all will be led by Jewel Food Store Executives throughout the store to purchase items for their respective Thanksgiving dinners.
“As America prepares for Thanksgiving, it's important to remember that many people in our community will be struggling to put food on the table. Especially those who will be missing loved ones due to senseless violence. But I love this spirit of giving back with these families in mind. I am confident that the contributions from VMS will not only assist in providing a well-balanced holiday meal, but also bring a smile to their faces amid these challenging times.” says Alderman David Moore.
