Advocate Trinity Hospital only Chicagoland Hospital Named to U.S. News ‘Best Regional Hospital for Equitable Access’ List
U.S. News recognizes the South Side hospital’s commitment to health equity on nationwide list of 53 hospitals providing high-quality care to underserved populations.
“This recognition is a testament to the incredible efforts of our dedicated medical staff and team members, who work tirelessly to care for our patients and community,” said Advocate Trinity Hospital President Michelle Y. Blakely, PhD. “South Side residents live an estimated 30 years less than North Side residents. This is the largest wellness gap in the country, due to a variety of social challenges that often stand in the way of wellness.”
According to a 2019 study by UChicago Medicine, nearly 85% of hospitalized South Side residents have two or more chronic conditions such as hypertension, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), diabetes, obesity, congestive heart failure, mental health & substance use issues and renal failure.
Additionally, Advocate opened a walk-in clinic across the street from Advocate Trinity to help patients with non-life-threatening conditions find easier access to care and shorter wait times. You can find information about our newest walk-in clinic here.
The U.S. News’ analysis of all current Best Regional Hospitals in the U.S. identified 53
hospitals in 26 states achieving excellent outcomes among socioeconomically vulnerable populations. Carle Hospital in Urbana is the only other Illinois hospitals on the list.
