The Experiences That Matter Foundation’s 2020 Perfect Vision Campaign Receives $25,000 HealthyMD x EYL Healthcare Business Grant
Chicago, IL – August 27, 2024 – The Experiences That Matter Foundation is proud to announce that its 2020 Perfect Vision Campaign has been selected as this year's recipient of the HealthyMD x EYL (Earn Your Leisure) Healthcare StartUp Grant. The grant, valued at $25,000, was awarded on stage at this year’s Invest Fest in Atlanta, GA, with Lauren London presenting the award alongside HealthyMD Co-Founders, Clifford W. Knights II and Steve Vixamar.
The 2020 Perfect Vision Campaign is a mobile vision clinic initiative based in Chicago, IL that provides FREE vision health resources, including vision screenings, eye exams, and prescription lenses. This campaign is committed to addressing the urgent need for accessible eye care in Black and Brown communities on the South and West Sides of Chicago. By partnering with Northwestern University’s Department of Ophthalmology, the campaign has garnered substantial support, including a second round of funding this summer through Northwestern’s Racial Equity and Community Partnership Grant Program.
HealthyMD, a pioneering healthcare company dedicated to bridging health disparities, established this grant in partnership with Earn Your Leisure (EYL) to support and uplift Black-owned businesses in the healthcare sector. This marks the second consecutive year that HealthyMD has partnered with EYL and the first year Lauren London was a part of the selection process to offer business grants aimed at empowering entrepreneurs who are making significant impacts in their communities.
"This grant is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our team and partners who have been committed to this project for the past five years," said Dinai Yelverton, Founder of Experiences That Matter Foundation. "I am extremely grateful to HealthyMD and Invest Fest for creating this opportunity for Black businesses. Building this clinic has been a labor of love, and I'm excited to pick the brains of both Cliff and Steve to understand how they overcame some of the obstacles we are now facing.”
“We understand the challenges entrepreneurs face when growing their businesses, particularly in the healthcare industry,” the HealthyMD co-founders said. “Through this grant our goal was to uplift fellow entrepreneurs aiming to make a true difference in their communities and The Experience Matters Foundation aligns with this mission. We are excited to see how this grant supports their growth and impact on our communities.”
The 2020 Perfect Vision Campaign recently completed construction of its new mobile clinic, which will be unveiled on September 7th in Chicago. This state-of-the-art mobile unit is designed to bring critical vision care directly to underserved neighborhoods, breaking down barriers to access and ensuring that all community members can receive the care they need.
