US Congresswoman Robin Kelly to Speak at Violence Prevention Fundraiser

featuring Grammy Award Winning Producer DJ Scratch at the Copacabana Night Club in New York Times Square 


NEW YORK, NY – August 2, 2024 – Dr. Michael A. McGee, founder of Project Outreach and Prevention (POP) on Youth Violence, and chair of the National Medical Association (NMA) Council on Violence Prevention, will host a violence prevention fundraiser “Havana Nights Groove” during the 2024 Annual NMA Convention & Scientific Assemble on Sunday, August 4, 2024, from 8:30pm to 2am at Copacabana Night Club 625 W. 51st Street New York, NY 10019.


Dr. McGee will be joined by US Congresswoman Robin Kelly (IL) who will make remarks at the Diversity Equity and Inclusion (DEI) Reception 8:30pm to 9:30pm about the importance of DEI organizations. Rep. Kelly is also celebrating the 10-year anniversary of the landmark 2014 Kelly Report - a first of its kind analysis of the gun violence epidemic in the United States, which charts a path for the actions our nation should take to end the gun violence epidemic. Performing live will be the legendary producer and Grammy Award Winner, DJ Scratch. Funds will go to Violence Prevention Initiatives.


Congresswoman Robin Kelly was elected to serve the 2nd Congressional District in the State of Illinois in 2013. A staunch champion for common-sense gun reforms and responsible community policing, Rep. Kelly is a Co-Chair of the Congressional Gun Violence Prevention Taskforce and is also a member of the House Democratic Steering and Policy Committee and serves as Chair of the Congressional Black Caucus Health Braintrust, and Co-Chairs the Congressional Caucus on Black Women and Girls.


Hip Hop producer and DJ Scratch (George Spivey) is a native New Yorker, born in Brooklyn. DJ Scratch’s career spans over three decades after being introduced to EPMD by Jam Master Jay. Currently the host of “The Block” on 94.7, DJ Scratch is the owner of ScratchVision TV, and has worked with Busta Rhymes and the Flipmode Squad, 50 Cent, The Roots, DMX, Q-Tip and LL Cool J., among other music luminaries.


Dr. McGee, MD, MPH, FACEP is a renowned ER Physician, the national chair of the National Medical Association’s (NMA) Council on Violence Prevention, Chairperson of the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP) Diversity & Inclusion, Firearm Violence & Injury Prevention Committee, and the founder of Project Outreach and Prevention (POP) on Youth Violence [www.poponviolence.org]. The not-for-profit organization was created to prevent and alleviate Youth Violence, while inspiring healthy lifestyles, positive behaviors, and accessible career opportunities. POP provides outreach services, educational seminars, as well as college and career readiness opportunities.
