THE PEGGY AND STEVE FOSSETT FOUNDATION HELPS FUND LARGEST THANKSGIVING MEAL DELIVERY IN MEALS ON WHEELS CHICAGO HISTORY
Meals on Wheels Chicago is pleased to announce The Peggy and Steve Fossett Foundation has awarded the Holiday Meal Delivery program a $35,000 grant that will help fund the upcoming Thanksgiving meal. This grant will ensure that thousands of Chicago’s homebound seniors and individuals with disabilities have meals for the holiday. Meals on Wheels Chicago celebrates this incredible gift by naming this year’s Thanksgiving meal “The Peggy and Steve Fossett Foundation Thanksgiving Meal.”
“Meals on Wheels Chicago allows us the opportunity to give back to the local community and honor Peggy and Steve Fossett,” says David Maier, President, Peggy and Steve Fossett Foundation.
“We are incredibly grateful to have the continued support of The Peggy and Steve Fossett Foundation, particularly during the ongoing health crisis. This grant means we can deliver a meals to thousands of people across the city on Thanksgiving, bringing joy and stability to those in need. With demand for our program increasing every day, their support gives us a lot to be grateful for this holiday season! ” says Meals on Wheels Chicago Executive Director Elise Geiger.
November 2020 marks the 32nd year since Meals on Wheels Chicago’s very first home delivered meal. On Thanksgiving Day in 1988 the organization delivered meals to 1,218 homebound seniors. With the support of the Peggy and Steve Fossett Foundation the program will provide meals to more than 10,400 clients this year, reflecting a 67% increase in enrollment since March as a result of the pandemic.

Meals on Wheels Chicago has raised both private funds and awareness to accomplish our mission to ensure that both homebound seniors and individuals with disabilities benefit from programs that improve quality of life and maximize independence.
