2 killed when struck by Metra commuter train
CHICAGO (AP) — Metra commuter rail says service is being restored on its western line after two people were killed by a train headed for Chicago's Union Station.
Officials say delays of up to two hours is being reported by trains headed to Chicago's western suburbs.
Meg Reile says the two unidentified victims, a male and a female, were struck Thursday on the Burlington Northern-Santa Fe line that runs between Aurora and Chicago.
Reile says the incident occurred after the train left the La Grange station and was a mile west of the Western Ave. station. The tracks at that point are elevated.
Reile says about 25,000 commuters may be affected by the service disruption on Metra's busiest line.
