Commandos 82 Back on the Court
Hundreds of alumni and supporters gathered in the gymnasium at John Marshall Metropolitan High School (JMMHS) last week for a basketball game fundraiser hosted and organized by The Commandos 82, a nonprofit organization created by four JMMHS students who graduated in 1982. Themed Back to the Court, basketball players from classes 1979-2006 participated to raise money for JMMHSs graduating seniors.
The Commandos 82 primary focus is to give back to a school that in their opinion, gave so much to them.
Through The Commandos 82, seniors graduating from JMMHS with grades that may not necessarily qualify them for scholarships by traditional standards, are provided money to attend higher education institutions. The Commandos 82 also help initiate and fund programs to improve the education of current JMMHS students.
We wanted to be able to give back to the school under our graduating class year, said Jennifer Jones, co-founder of Commandos 82. This is the first of many events we will host to raise money for Marshall.
Next month, the Commandos 82 organization will hold a Toys for Tots Christmas drive for less fortunate children.
Its always nice to give back to your Alma Mater, and thats what we are trying to accomplish here, expressed Sharon Jones, also a co-founder of Commandos 82.
We gathered here for a good cause and were all winners, stated Michael Harrison, a Commandos 82 supporter.
The Commandos 82 plans to host several fundraising activities throughout 2011-2012. For more information about or to donate, email commandos1982@yahoo.com.
